You probably can't and shouldn't -- It'd potentially create the risk to overload the already unstable servers.

There was discussion about it in <a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=2021">this thread</a>.
The general opinion is that if your connection isn't always on, it's better to disable network access.
<b>How to:</b>
In the BOINC GUI file menu:
Check: disable network access
(and uncheck it when you are connected and want to send trickles)


With BOINC 4.25, you can enable or disable network access by right-clicking the icon and selecting disable network access. Or, if the manager is open, you'll find that option in the file menu.

If you have messages like deferring communications for... and don't want to wait:
In the projects tab:
Select the project you want
Right-click
Select update

With BOINC 4.25
Select project.
In the left-hand pane select update project
