Hello everyone, this might have been asked but I have not found a reassuring answer to this basic question yet.

My model seems to be working ok on the Mac, the number of timesteps keeps increasing according to the visual tool.

I am not doing this for the credits but I need to make sure that the cpu is not working for nothing and that there is an actual contribution to the project.

So far the Mac trickled twice, firstly at timestep 10802 and secondly at timestep 21604 which I believe was expected. From what I have read in various parts of the forums, we should expect a trickle every 10802 steps. Since the cpu is currently at step 39397, it looks like we might have missed something.

Can someone tell me whether this is matter for concern or not ? Can I just keep the process running without worrying about the trickles ?

Your help would be appreciated as i would not want to waste the cpu's time.

I would be grateful if someone could point me to some information about the relevance of those trickles.

The trickles let the server know that the wu is still being worked on. There was a thread somewhere
that talked about the server considering that the wu had been abandoned if there were no trickles
received in six weeks, but, in theory, you can let ALL the trickle files, (which are small), accumulate
on your computer, and upload all of them, together with the 5 zip files, when you have finished processing.

Also, the trickles are used to assign credit to your account.

However, the server would re-send the wu to another host when it doesn't hear from you for a while.

You should be able to see the trickle files somewhere in the cp directory. In Windows, the folder
is: Program FilesBOINCprojectsclimateprediction.net

Having explained all that, the fact that your trickles have stopped being uploaded may mean that
something has gone wrong, even if they are being accumulated, so some further checking is a good idea.
Have you changed any setting, added / deleted a program? etc.

This is very helpful, as it happens, my machine sent the last trickle about half an hour ago as I was expecting, this is good news. That's my confidence restored.
I am going to spend a bit of time investigating this a bit further though. Could simply be that at the time of the third trickle, the internet connection was down.

It looks however like this does not seem to offend the process too much which was my main concern, the timesteps keep increasing at the same pace which hopefully means the contribution is there.

I noticed that you have three tricles so far - 10K, 20K, and 40K, but your credit is 378. I've been getting around 95 credits per trickle on my Mac, so it looks as if you have received the proper amount of credit (4 x 95 = 380). I'd suggest not worrying about it, and just see what happens next time.

Hi Les, I saw the trickle preference at installation and said 'No', thinking it would be better to tell system (AppleG5/2Ghz/10.3.7) to crunch as much as possible whenever possible! I now believe that to be a mistake having read what you said about 'Wu'(?). I cannot find the preference set that allows me to re-set Trickle to 'on' nor can I find the 'Boinc upload client'.
