Jeez, I asked to get 1.5 days of work not like forever. Are ALL of the Climateprediction WU's this big? Plus I have an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ so it's not that bad of a computer too <a href="http://tinyurl.com/9hemz"><img src="http://www.boincsynergy.com/images/stats/comb-1441.jpg"></img></a> |

Welcome to the world of climate modeling. Here, you get a set of parameters, and your computer creates a three dimensional model of the earth's atmosphere over a forty five year period. Even the 64bit super computer that normally runs this program at the Hadley Centre doesn't do it in five minutes. When you get over your shock, read the Climate Science files to the left of here to see what this project is about. My 3.2G P4, running a pair of model sets, takes about 36 days to get a completed model. Your next big shock will be the size of an almost completed model, just before it gets zipped. 700Megs in your case. 1400Megs for a HT Intel. Plus program files. Les |

You're running with a single cpu, so 700M. I'm running with "2" cpus, (Hyper Threading), so twice the space, or 1400M. Also should have said, if I ran a single cpu, (for 1 model), it would take about 20 days. So 2 at once is slightly faster. You get credit every time you trickle, which is every 10,802 timesteps. In my case, that's about every 11 hours. There's some info about this in the FAQ, <a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/quick_faq.php#l"> here.</a> Of course, if you want to see the credits along the way, you need to trickle daily. A lot of the FAQ was for the pre-BOINC modeling, (still available), and it says that contact with the server is only necessary at the start and end of a model. (This may be on the Technical requirements page.) The credit value was set to give an amount similar to SETI, and the end result is 6805.26 credits. You can see the current timestep in the graphic. There is also an Advanced Visualisation package. See the second last item in the left hand menu. HOWEVER! Problems have started showing up recently, where using the graphics, (either), causes a lockup or crash. It seems to be related, (mostly?), to having some types of ATI card and/or the sofware version for it. There is a very large thread devoted to this matter on the SETI site, and several threads on this site. I think the place to look here would be on the community forum. Also, if you decide to search for something on any of the Q & P boards, or the BOINC message board, click on the search button. DON"T press enter; there is a bug which returns a zero search result.
