i hadnt had any trouble with the sulphur beta site doing work but since i came over to this side, i once again cannot get a unit to stay up for more than a second. I had no problems with version 4.17 but versions 4.13 and 4.19 are crashing.

see error file

Not sure, but those are probably Sulfur Cycle work units. If you still have boinc 4.19 installed, they'll never run. 4.45 is required.

If that is the case,
1. Suspend, then exit boinc and backup the boinc Folder
2. Un-install boinc 4.19 with Windoze facility (removes only boinc files; leaves CPDN files intact)
3. Download and install boinc 4.45

There is still the delay of nearly two days before boinc will allow communication with CPDN servers. (There is a way around that if you know your way around client_state.xml and are comfortable tweaking it.)

It delivered me a 4.19 model just now, I wonder why it didn't see that I'm using BOINC 4.19.

I don't feel like upgrading all computers to a BOINC version I do not like so too much and it's too much work too, most have no monitor attached and run unattended.

I will wait and see what it does, if it crashes, I'm out of the game I guess.

Christian used CC 4.45 though so his BOINC version should be fine for Sulphur Cycle models.

Carl is aware of the SC-only downloads and is looking into it. Won't be a fix until next week, though. (We can be sure there will be a lot of irritated people if it isn't fixed soon. [My understanding of SC implementation, now proved erroneous, was that it would be parallel to HadSM3 and it would be participant's choice on which to run. I hope it is soon set-up that way.])

Re. my earlier post: Perhaps Christian ran Beta the same way I did, from its own Folder. (I responded to his mention of 4.13/4.19 but it wouldn't be the first time I misunderstood something...)

I had to uninstall 4.19 from my regular boinc Folder when my WinXP machine was was pulled from Beta; So far, I haven't mixed Alpha or Beta work with regular work -- easier (for me) to manage that way.

Hope Carl has a fix that covers your situation; it would be a shame to lose a regular.

Good news for CC 4.19 users :

It isn't really incompatible to the new model, it just doesn't use the new mimiks for intermediate uploading but still will upload everything after the full run.

Hmmm, has me considering fall-back to 4.19; if the Benchmark Bug rears its ugly head again...

i have had my problems with starting a work unit for CPDN since before the sulphur inclusion. I was able to complete 3 units for CPDN and then all the sudden, i get a computation error almost immediately. I did everything from pausing, backing up, detatching, reinstalling boinc 4.45 to finally bagging the work. I then attached to sulphur beta and had no problems getting a work unit. In fact, it crunched to step 2.

Then the announcement came that the sulphur units were phased into the normal CPDN channels so I got the new 4.19 version of sulphur hoping that my original CPDN problems went away (since I and many others were having issues with 4.13). Unfortunately its doing the same thing. crashing immidiately.

Crandles has been good about keeping us in the loop so I will wait to hear of any fixes before bombing more units.

P.S. Good luck citizens of New Orleans!!!!

AstroWX's idea was to go back to BOINC 4.19 for those Sulphur Cycle models.

I have one trickle so far with BOINC 4.19 + CPDN 4.19 (Win2k) so I cannot really tell if it's a reliable combination - but at least it's a working combination.

well, i was unable to get it to work so I started a spinup model. That works fine. so on to crunching....
