I have a P4 3.06HT XP SP2 1500MB ram running 2 WU side-by-side (both 4.12 & 4.13), so I don\'t understand why I am not able to download sulphur.

Has anyone got any idea why this is so?

Have you got all your preferences set to allow at least 5GB of free BOINC space?

I also hoped to get a sulphur cycle model, but what my 2 computers got during the last few days were 4 normal models and I wonder why.

Host 161068 (P4 HT 3.00GHz, WinXP, SP2, 1 GB memory, free disk space: 104.78 GB) has been running CPDN only for months.
Host 218756 (P4 HT 3.4 GHz, WinXP, SP2, 2 GB memory, free disk space: 218.76 GB ) was still running SETI when I attached it to CPDN (shares: SETI 15, CPDN: 90)

My general preferences are: Use no more than 100 GB, Leave at least 0.1 GB, Use no more than 50% of total space, Use no more than 75% of total virtual memory.

Both machines use BOINC 4.45 and are running 24/7. I thought they met all criteria for a sulphur cycle model and that they shouldn't have a problem with the earlier deadline.
Has anybody an idea what I would have to change to get a sulphur cycle model next time?

I had a similar experience. P4 3 GHz running Linux with similar preferences and it downloaded a slab model. Did they run out of sulphurs?

I just attached this new machine expecting to get a sulphur model, but recieved two slab models instead.
Oh well, guess I'll try again when these two are completed. Boincview reports the models running at 1.93 and 1.98s/TS. If the models don't slow down they should be completed in 12 days.

See you then! ;)

At 2 sec/TS a model finishes in 18 days. So at those sec/TS, they should finish in 17 to 18 days.

I got a sulphur the other day on a machine I didn\'t especially want one on. I like to run more than one project on a machine. Too bad we can\'t trade. :) The linux client 4.19 downloads one near the end of phase one. I will try to pay attention on the other linux machine when it gets near the end of phase one and adjust the disk space to get a slab.

It isn\'t going to hurt the running sulphur model when I lower the disk space for another machine, is it? Will there be any weird errors?

If you want to get a Slab inplace if the Sulpher it is easy, just suspend all other projects, than suspend the Sulpher model. It will look to CPDN for new work and get a Slab model. When the Slab model starts you can abort the Sulpher so the system knows to send it out to another user. If you do it just after a tricklet is sent you will still get credit for the part that you did.

If you have plunty of disk space just edit your preferances to allow it more space before getting the next model.

I read somewhere that the team were only sending out 5000 data sets, and these had all been sent a week or so back.
But there have been so many reports of failures, and models aborted, that it may be necessary to create another batch.
I think that it is a limited experiment, and that the main appearance of sulphur will be in the coupled ocean model.
But I may well be wrong. Again.

quick update,
looks like i wont get a sulphur model, got another slab model when my old model finished (had the new one suspended when that happened) and ill continue with those 2 now. i read somewhere on the forums that a model will not \"time out\" if i let it trickle once in a while if my memory is right, is that correct? id like to finish both models i got now, deadline is far enough in the future, but one of the two wont trickle for a while if i do not step in manually i think.

My PC has plenty of space, memory and CPU and I was looking forward to a sulphur model, but I tried 3 times after my latest model finished and I can\'t get one either. The news item said they expected it to go until \"early next year\" -- so Les, if you run across the news you mentioned please leave us a pointer to it, it would be nice to know whether we\'re out of new sulphur work left or something\'s gone odd with my machine.

Meanwhile, back to the 3rd slab model (aborted the other 2).

there are only 5K sulphur experiments and it looks like they\'ve all been handed out! I may regen some more as well as other workunits that have 3 uploader URL\'s (BOINC will now \"round robin\" uploaders upon a failure if there is more than one uploader URL in a workunit -- AMEN! :)

Since then more have been generated but I don\'t know if they have all been handed out. Project stats indicate there are 5598 trickling hosts. This is slightly up on a couple of days ago, but I wouldn\'t want to draw strong conclusions from this.

My computer tried to download two sulphur models last night. Both errored out during the download of the zip file with \"file not found on server\". I emailed Carl detailed error messages today and his response was:

hmmm, looks like boinc deleted the workunit files but is still trying to send out results for that workunit. I\'ll turn off the workunits/results that are pointing to missing files.

My slow (750MHz) machine has just finished a slab model and downloaded a new Sulphur model which, I reckon, will take about 120 days to complete. Is there any point in running it?. I thought the idea was that the Sulphur models needed to be finished quickly so they could be used to seed the spinup models.

They want a lot back by Jan/Feb? but I am sure they will accept more after the deadline.

It isn\'t needed to seed the coupled spinup which has started (at least I hope we won\'t have to restart) but is needed for the coupled hindcast.

It looks like it should finish around the end of Feb 2006, roughly the same time as my spinup model (assuming no more rewinds of course) so I\'ll let it continue.

Ah, I was getting my projects confused.

Thanks for the clarification

For what it\'s worth I downloaded my first Sulphur model (Sunday) on my Linux box (ID: 163411) with a deadline of 28 September 2006. It wants 51 CPU days on a P4 3.0GHz machine (slab model is about 24 days). That\'s about 200 days with my resource share. I\'ve trickled twice with no problems (so far).

Clearly there\'s no rush for this one. Is this new or maybe a separate series?

If i understood it corectly, they need only the first 5000 results before february 2006.
