I have been running the previous version of the Boinc client as a local service with no problems. However, I have recently moved house and (foolishly) thought that I should take the opportunity to upgrade. I tried to install v5.2.13 without first uninstalling the old version. I got an error message which prompted me to uninstall the older program before downloading the new one. I did this but the install stalled again, claiming that I did not have sufficient privilages to start services. This is nonsensical as I run XP Pro on a standalone machine with administrator rights. Anyways, I had a play about and managed to get the software to install as a local service rather than as a user specific service. Unfortunately my success appears shortlived as I am unable to download work. The message tab reveals the following: 20/02/2006 17:24:37||HTTP_CURL:libcurl_exec(): Can\'t setup HTTP response output file projects/climateprediction.net/sulphur_se_4.22_windows_intelx86.zip 20/02/2006 17:24:37|climateprediction.net|Couldn\'t start download of sulphur_se_4.22_windows_intelx86.zip 20/02/2006 17:24:37|climateprediction.net|URL http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/download/sulphur_se_4.22_windows_intelx86.zip: system fopen 20/02/2006 17:24:37|climateprediction.net|Backing off 1 hours, 57 minutes, and 54 seconds on download of file sulphur_se_4.22_windows_intelx86.zip Any ideas anyone? |

The version of BOINC you were previously running has registry (and XML file) settings that are incompatible with the new version. You need to reinstall the old version (you can get it from here if necessary), uninstall it and then install 5.2.13.
