I recently joined the experiment but had problems downloading. The outcome is that there are 3 computers on my account, however they are really the same one entered 3 times. The experiment is running on one of them but I can\'t update it, as it only one (unused) computer is communicated with. How can I delete the 2 unused computers so that credits can be added to the one running the experiment. Thanks |

If they are the same computer, you should be able to merge them. Go to the individual computer webpage and at the bottom should be a Merge function that will put them back together. |

If they are the same computer, you should be able to merge them. Go to the individual computer webpage and at the bottom should be a Merge function that will put them back together. I\'ve looked on the computer summary page which I accessed from my account page, but there isn\'t a merge function there. Is there another computer webpage that I should be looking at? I did a site search for Merge but didn\'t come up with anything. Thanks |

I\'ve looked on the computer summary page which I accessed from my account page, but there isn\'t a merge function there. The page geophi is referring to, headed computer summary, is a whole page listing information about that computer only - you can drill down to it by clicking on the ID number in the list of your computers. At the bottom, the last item should be a merge option which you can select. |

I\'ve looked on the computer summary page which I accessed from my account page, but there isn\'t a merge function there. Hi. After drilling down, there is still no mention of merge. The last item on the list is Results. This is the page location: http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/show_host_detail.php?hostid=390202 I have to say though, that since entering this correspondance, the computer doing the work has updated once. I\'d still like to get to the bottom of merging my computers into one, in case of future problems. Thanks. |

You say: hostid=390202 But, if I click on your name to the left of these posts, I get: hostid=388389 This means that you have two accounts, and you are looking at a different one to that from which you are posting. Also, Results is the last entry on the list when looking at someone else\'s account. So, we\'ll have to wait until you work out who you really are. |

I have the option to merge my puters, but not to delete them. Here they are:
And none but the linux one is crunching any more. I\'ve got no results/WUs connected to them any more that are not either expired or finished or crushed, so deletion should be possible. But it isn\'t :( How do I get rid of this useless data? Edit: I will also post this in numbers, as I presume this forum less visited. I just found this thread via search and didn\'t look at the part of the forum it\'s in. Grüße vom Sänger |

I believe it is because the units never get \"validated\", so the delete option will never show. This project is very different from other projects, they do not purge out the old units, they stay in the online database. I am unsure they use a master database like other projects do, so they can not purge the data, so they do not validate it, which means it will never allow a machine to be deleted. Merging is fine, because the data will move to the merged machine, but no deleting. |

Hi, Been running climateprediction.net for four months and re-built my computer. BOINC assigned me two new tasks and I aborted them and merged my computer (as you have suggested below). Problem is that the next time I was awarded two new tasks and the old ones are still sitting there not ticking over. Aborted the two new tasks and ended up with six tasks, two of them I want to run. Under \'Projects\' clicked on \'Update\' and still have no tasks in the \'tasks\' pane. Don\'t want to press the \'Reset Project\' or \'Detach\' buttons as I\'m afraid they will kill the work done to date. \'Update gives me a \'Communication deferred\' countdown. How do I get my Windows PC to connect to those dormant tasks? I would appreciate your help. This is the results from \'Your Account\' and \'Computers\' The last two tasks are the ones I would like to get back on board. Are the models for those 2 tasks still in your Tasks tab? If not, then there\'s no way to get them back. Backups: Here |

Are the models for those 2 tasks still in your Tasks tab? Hi and thanks for replying. No the models are not in the tasks tab. They never showed up when I re-installed BOINC (a slightly later version 5.8.16). I\'ve deleted the newer ones only to have them replaced with other new ones (both before and after I merged my computers). The original tasks and the new running ones all show up with green text under \'Time reported or deadline\' and have a \'Client State\' as New. I have a dual processor and BOINC gives me two tasks every download. Are you sure there\'s no way to get them back? I\'ve watched the models grow ever so slowly over months and would rather like to see them finish. Regards, Ross. |

You can only get them back from a backup made BEFORE it all went wrong. The only place that a model exists, is on your computer, as a \'work in progress\'. Backups: Here |

You can only get them back from a backup made BEFORE it all went wrong. G\'day again, Boy you\'re fast! Do have all the data as I installed windows on a separate hard drive when rebuilding the computer. X\"\\Program Fils\\BOINC\\projects\\climateprediction.net\\ and a directory name that matches the original workunit name from my earlier model. Contains directories such as \'datain, dataout, jobs and tmp\' Do I just copy these directories across to the new/active directory on my boot drive? Is there much else to do? Thanks for your help to date. Cheers, Ross. |

You\'ll need to copy the entire Boinc directory from the original location onto the new location (when Boinc is shut down, otherwise not all files will be copied). I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

If you go to the project READMEs through my signature, in the README about avoiding model crashes item #1 is Les\'s easy backup & restore method. If you want a more sophisticated method, there\'s a README just about backups. Cpdn news |

At this rate it will take over two years to finish even with a current model PC. That\'s some model! Good thing I know how to back it up now. Thanks again. Ross. |
