I just upgraded to the latest Boinc after being on 4.19 or something like that. When I did a reboot, it said it could not connect. I went into Windows Firewall and enabled boinc.exe, boinccmd.exe, and boincmgr.exe (and removed boinc_gui.exe). When I do File/Select Computer and type in localhost, it puts a long row of dots into the password, but then fails. If I try my climateprediction.net password it fails. If I try my windows login password it fails. If I leave both fields blank it fails. Any idea what the problem is? I am running XP Pro with all upgrades on a Dell 8200 with 1.9Ghz CPU. |

Don\'t put anything into the 2 windows, just click OK. The 2 windows are for \'talking\' to remote computers in a network. |

It was most likely a port conflict. M$ is sitting on the port assigned to BOINC. Later versions will use a different port and handle blocked ports better as well. BOINC WIKI BOINCing since 2002/12/8 |
