I have a number of machines that will not allow CPDN to communicate through the firewall and there is no chance that I can get that changed. Could I install the software, start a new project on a machine that can connect, suspend that project, back it up and copy to the machine running behind the firewall and get it going on that one? Could I then do the reverse to get the results sent back?

Yes you can, but have you read the Climateprediction.net license agreement?
here

Specifically section 9, which says:

9) You will only use this software and data on a computer system for which you have permission to do so.

People have been fired for running it at work without permission, and in at least one case, taken to court.

Anyway, if permission is not a problem, you can communicate through the firewall by the same means as a web browser: through a proxy server.

There are some proxy servers which Boinc can\'t get through (something to do with the number of redirects?), Martyn\'s suggestion should work in that case (although a bit fiddly). Ideally the models should be allowed to talk to the server every month or so (otherwise the server will think they\'ve been lost).
I'm a volunteer and my views are my own.
