This just started happening to me this morning, and I\'ve run the project successfully for over a month now. Also, there is no longer any information showing up in the windows of the Boinc manager like there used to be.

What do I type in for the \"Select Computer\" fields? It should be the easiest information to find but I can\'t locate it for the life of me. Just for the record, I\'m running Boinc on my home computer and I am not using any proxies.

On edit, I\'m running version 5.2.13 of the client and my computer is an Athlon x2 3800 with 2GB of ram, so I know it\'s not my system....

It can happen intermittently - what seems to occur is that Windows decides it wants to use the port number which boinc normally uses, hence local communication is lost. This usually resolves itself the next time you restart the computer.

Usually it works to leave both fields (computer and password) empty.


It COULD also help to upgrade to BOINC 5.4.9 from http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php . For doing this, please be shure to exit BOINC properly and taking a backup of the whole BOINC directory, in case of something goes wrong.
Just install the new version over the existing folder.

Thank both of you who have answered so far, for responding so quickly especially. Simply updating the Boinc client was enough to get it up and working again, but I will certainly remember to restart my computer next time it fails.
