I posted this on the forums, but thought I\'d also drop a message ehre as well. Original post here: http://www.climateprediction.net/board/viewtopic.php?t=5078 I\'ve recently installed boinc_5.4.9_windows_intelx86.exe onto a Windows XP Pro SP2 workstation. The system is a core duo and is set to use 1 CPU. When I start the BOINC manager, I see that the work units have downloaded and in general the messages indicate everything is normal. The tasks run according to my preferences (run after 5 minutes idle) and I can view the graphical display by selecting either of the tasks and click \"Show Graphics\". Starting and stopping of the tasks appears to be happening correctly within the message window - when I leave the machine running for the night I find that it does in fact start up, run the assigned tasks all night, and suspend when I start using the system again in the morning. I\'ve selected the BOINC screensaver in my display properties to start after 5 minutes. If I select \"Run always\" in the BOINC manager and select \"preview\" in the display properties, I see the full-screen graphics as expected, and it will return to my desktop upon moving the mouse. If I let it start the screensaver by timing out, it just goes black with no graphics displayed. The system power settings are set to \"always on\" when plugged in, so it\'s not monitor blanking either. I currenty have the system set to start the screensaver after 1 minute, all windows power settings set to \"always on\", and the BOINC manager set to run always and I still cannot get the graphics to display for the screensaver after the minute of idle time expires. Again, it works fine if I just click the preview button. Any ideas what the heck could be wrong? Is there any more information I could post here to help with troubleshooting this issue? |

That\'s a good username for someone posting the same question here, for the same volunteer helpers to answer. |

Make sure the idle time in BOINC is shorter than the screensaver time. If the screensaver tries to start before BOINC is active BOINC will see this as activity and never start. Sometimes this happens anyway, but it is worth trying. BOINC WIKI BOINCing since 2002/12/8 |
