AMD Duron 1.30Ghz (overclocked, not done by me), 480MB RAM, Win XP Pro SPII, Version 5.2.13 BOINC. I have tried to find an answer to my problem in the FAQ\'s but don\'t always understand them. I just want to stop the WU\'s from failing after the CPU has done 15-20hrs of work on them. I do not leave the PC on all the time and don\'t like wasting CPU time or electricity on something that doesn\'t seem to be achieving anything. My total user statistics have now flat lined as nothing has completed for a long time. On a previous question re failures I was advised to update to the newer version of BOINC which has been done for some time but the success rate since then has plummeted? I would welcome more advice please and ask again if with my system it is worth carrying on? Kind regards Phil. |

Maybe the overclock is overheating the processor too much, and not giving good work. I would suggest searching for 2 programs and test your system. They are Prime95 and Memtest86+. As I see you state it has 480M of RAM, which means you are probably using a shared video card, are you running the screen saver? If so, stop. This may be the problem, also. |

Thank you Pooh, I\'ve seen those programmes mentioned in the forum, I\'ll give them a look. I don\'t run a screensaver or check the graphics re CP so I\'m getting very disappointed at what seems the constant failures of the WU\'s. I\'m very close to pulling out of the experiment if this continues. Kind regards Phil. |

Hi, Try dropping the overclock a bit, or even simply turning it off. This often causes a problem, since it means that the machine becomes unstable. The programmes recommended above are the ones overclockers use to test whether the machine is stable or unstable (ideally you\'ll need to run Prime95\'s torture test for 24 hours before you know for sure whether it\'s stable). The climate models need a machine which is rock-solid 100% stable, since they run for so long. I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

Additional suggestions: 1) upgrade to the latest version of BOINC 2) stop the WU and exit BOINC before shutting down Windows 3) try to stick to one WU by following these rules a) under projects, set CPDN to \'No new tasks\' b) do a regular backup of your BOINC folder (while the WU is not running), so you can restore if the WU fails |

In addition to the previous post: 4a) get more memory, or 4b) get a graphics card, so that system memory isn\'t used (possibly suddenly), by the graphics chips on the motherboard. |
