I installed the new BOINC and attached to the pjoject, and all seemed fine, but BOINC wont download any work. I\'ve checked and updated my settings for disk space etc (set to use up to 100GB, leaving 0GB free and using up to 100% of free space) so that shouldnt be the problem. Also checked my actual disk space and I have over 5GB free. Any idea what I may have missed?

I assume you are getting a disk space message, if not post a few lines of messages so we can see what's going on.

Reenter your disk preferences with a small amount of disk to leave free, 0.1 or something similar. Make sure you put in leading zeros where needed (trailing zeros don't hurt either). Update the preferences on the website and then update the preferences in the client. Also try setting use up to to 4GB or less some systems seem to have overflow problems with larger numbers.

PS. While you are setting preferences set the queue length down to about 3 days or so, you may have the initial defaults that were horribly high (and should be fixed now).

I have also had this problem but knew what the errors was. I was trying to run of my C drive that only had about 2GB free space so I installed onto my X drive which is a clean 40GB partition. When I installed to this drive my BOINC client showed me to have 40GB free on this partition but it would still not download WU. I then had to goto my preferences and set it up to get data for 0.1 - 0.2 days. I also set it to use at max 1.5GB since I had 2GB left on my C. I also set it up to use 100% of hard drive space.

Shouldn't this disk space check when requesting WU check the drive it's installed on and not the C drive ?

boinc 4.45

11/06/2005 08:47:15|climateprediction.net|Message from server: No disk space (you must free 183.8 MB before BOINC gets space). Review preferences for minimum disk free space allowed.

disk size 10 gig, free 1.6 gig
prefs set to no more than 100 gig, leave atleast 0.2 gig
no more than 90%
so it SHOULD be fine !

That does sound like it should work. One thing is sometimes if you enter .2 instead of 0.2 into the website it will confuse things.

What resource share have you give CP? Try increasing that to at least 80% temporarily to see if that allows a download.

(I am thinking 1.4Gig * cp resource share of say 30% = .42Gig available to CP which is about .18Gig short)

its not at 10000 = 87.34%
and i still get

Did you exit BOINC and go back in while set to over 80%?

Does it make any difference to set use at most to 1.4 Gig, exit and go back in?

(Sounds like I am clutching at straws but the BOINC WIKI does suggest the exit and go back in.)

BTW it would be nice to see exactly how the calculation is working. Also a longer copy of the log might also help with creating better documentation.

The server seems to be down, so I would wait.

As you have seen, nobody has yet got to the bottom of why the disk preferences don't seem to work sometimes, but as well as the obvious things, like ensuring that all the settings in preferences are compatible, it may be that they also don't work if the space allocated is greater than the amount physically available.

Try reducing the 'use no more than x GB' figure if it is bigger than than the partition size.

Also try exiting BOINC. Maybe also a reboot before starting BOINC again?

>
Which is the configuration file where I should set this parameter?. I cannot find it at all and I cannot make to work CP. However, both SETI and Einstein@home are working ...

In the menu on the left of this screen you should find an entry for 'Your account'. Go there and select 'General Preferences' then 'edit'.

There is a lot of help on all things BOINC at Paul Buck's site.
