I\'ve upgraded to BOINC 5.4.9 and just started another work unit and I\'m getting the \"you are using the wrong url for this project\" message

I see that this post refers the problem and links to a possible fix here.

In the second thread it says \"...attached to CPDN using a URL other than \"climateprediction.net\"
such as if you used \"www.climateprediction.net\" or \"climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc\" when we were having server trouble.\"

I\'d thought I\'d been attached to \"climateprediction.net\" and that is exactly what it says in the project column in the projects and tasks tabs. If I were attached to \"www.climateprediction.net\" rather than \"climateprediction.net\"
wouldn\'t the project column show \"www.climateprediction.net\"?

You might need the \'http://\' possibly.

5.4.9 seems to be very fussy about the URL.

Message 24284 - Posted: 14 Sep 2006, 16:21:20 UTC

I tried the link and the download following the instructions and still I get this message every time I run BOINC:

9/14/2006 12:13:33 PM|climateprediction.net|You are using the wrong URL for this project
9/14/2006 12:13:33 PM|climateprediction.net|The correct URL is http://climateprediction.net/

It doesn\'t appear that the fix fixed anything.

What do you say to this?

Hi Bill,

Are you currently processing a climate model? If not, then try detaching and then reattaching (if you do this while a model is running it will kill it).

I\'m currently approaching 11.6% of a climate model.

However, today when I checked (after rebooting at least once since posting) I found this in my BOINC Messages:

9/15/2006 9:13:42 PM|climateprediction.net|URL: http://www.climateprediction.net/; Computer ID: 3XXXXX; location: ; project prefs: default

Did BOINC fix itself? I had been having those messages for several weeks since running the download. All of a sudden after posting it\'s fixed?

Can anyone explain?

I doubt it\'s fixed (that\'s just the start-up message), but at least we know why it\'s complaining.

Well, I tried the Update button and got this again:

9/16/2006 7:26:17 AM|climateprediction.net|You are using the wrong URL for this project
9/16/2006 7:26:17 AM|climateprediction.net|The correct URL is http://climateprediction.net/

So I guess it isn\'t fixed. Notice the \"http://\"? Is the \"www\" the problem and what can be done now that the download didn\'t quite fix it?

The http:// is OK, but as you suspect the \'www\' is the problem.

Since I have not been able to resolve this, and the model seems to be running okay, will it be necessary to fix this?

If so, how?

It\'s not a problem for this project, but may be for others.
Leave it until the model finishes, then follow the instructions and Detach; then Reattach to the url that it keeps wanting.

I thought I would experiment with this issue when I found that my experiment directory was named C:\\Program Files\\BOINC\\projects\\www.climateprediction.net.

I had made a backup of this directory a week ago. So I exited BOINC and made a fresh backup without deleting the original backup (saved when experiment was about 11.5% or so, today I was over 14%).

After the backup was complete I renamed the folder and re-opened BOINC. It failed with a \"Files Missing\" error followed by \"Detaching from project\".

It downloaded a new project but still had the \"wrong URL\".

So I detached and re-attached without the \"www.\" in the URL.

In the process of all of this the latest backup was destroyed but I still have the week old one. Is it possible or even advisable to try to restore my backup?

So far my attempt to copy over what was in the directory with my backup files have been unseccessful.

You\'ve lost me here.
How are you making these backups?
And the restores?

Basically it should be:

backup:
Copy folder_set a > new_location b

restore:
Copy folder_set b > original_location a

No destruction of files or folders involved, unless you delete the original \"a\" before copying \"b\" back to where \"a\" normally is.

Now I\'ve tried to restore from backup to www.climateprediction.net directory. I attached to www.climateprediction.net and got this:

When my computer detached from the project was that experiment done?

Are my backup files now of any use?

Did the data get collected through the last trickle-up?

Should I just now delete my projects and re-attach without the \"www.\"?

Well, I just downloaded a new model and started running it.

Do I still need to keep the old model backup?

Both Resetting and Detaching will kill the working models.

It may be best to just delete the folders for the old models, as they can\'t be used without restoring from a backup, which has all of the wrong url information.

If you used the correct url when you re-attached, then you should be OK from now on.

The message said when it was convenient detach and reattach. It was convenient so I did. The job ended and a new one downloaded. I had been working on that job for months. Was all the work I had done on it just lost? Or did some of it get sent back to the main collection center?
