I\'ve been running Climateprediction on BOINC for many months, but because I\'m not often at home, my model is still only at 21.42%. The deadline is 17 March, 2007 and I doubt I\'ll make it. Should I quit now and attach to a new project, one with smaller workloads? Or is there a way to extend the deadline?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The \"deadline\" is there because other projects use it, so this project has to put a date into that part of the BOINC software.
Provided that you send back at least one trickle a month to let the server know that the model is still \"alive\", you won\'t have a problem. Unless it takes you 10 years to complete, and the project shuts down in 5. :)

A few people have gone well past the \"deadline\" in the past, and had their models accepted.

Thanks. In that case, how do I know whether I am sending trickles back to the server?

There are two places where you can see that trickle_ups have been sent:
1) in the Messages tab of the Manager, where it\'s given as the reason for contacting the server, followed by Scheduler request to ..... succeeded
2) By looking at the model\'s page in your Account.

To start with, BOINC has created a couple of new computer IDs, so first I\'ll deal with merging them.
Click on Computers
Then on the Computer ID shown. (You can see all of the IDs by clicking \"All hosts\" below this.)
At the bottom of the computer page, it will say \"Merge this computer\".
Click this, then \"Select all\", then the \"Merge Hosts\" button.

OK, now you\'ll have all of the information on the one page, making it easier to explain, and for you to find.

Back to looking at trickles.
While you\'re on the computer page, click on the number to the right of Results.
On this page, click on Result ID, which will take you to the info page for that model.
And there, just above the graph info, is the word Trickle, with \"Click here\" to the right.
If you do that, you\'ll get a page with the trickles.

************

At this point you\'ll need to take a couple of deep breaths and get ready for the bad news.

The model that you\'ve been working on all of this time is one of those with a faulty sulphur file. It should have been killed off on Easter Sunday, along with every other model.
Perhaps your\'s got missed because you had the computer off for a while at the time.

There is a message about the problem here, along with another message about how use was/is being made of the \"faulty\" data.

So, the next task is to go into the Manager, then the Tasks tab, select the model name, and then click the Abort button.
The current model will be written off, and you\'ll get a new one.

There is plenty of time for more models, as the project still has years to go.
For the past 7 months I\'ve been running a different, special, set of climate models, but this project is just about finished, so I\'ll then be coming back here to start my first Coupled Ocean model.
It\'s going to be a big change from the short, fast models I\'ve had recently.
