A few days ago I noticed that (even though I stopped the screensaver) the BOINC GUI would start working on the workunits after about 60 seconds, even though the screensaver was NOT active (turned off). It was also causing problems with the DVD creation because there was no CPU overhead for DVD creation as it was taken up by BOINC after about 60 seconds. After suspending BOINC and getting the DVD\'s created, another problem surfaced. When I turned BOINC and the screensaver back on, one of the workunits will not stop; period. I restart the computer and everything is good until the screensaver comes back on and then the same workunit continues to run, screensaver or no. Is my only option to halt the workunit and loose the \"crunching\" I\'ve already put into it? TIA *EDIT* My wife pointed out the \"idle\" setting in the web preferences (duh). But the workunit not stopping issue remains. |

The screensaver is separate from the work unit. In fact most of us don\'t run the screensaver at all (it just wastes CPU time, after all). I\'d right-click on the icon and \'suspend\' (or \'snooze\', depending on version) before burning disks, encoding audio/video, or playing games. Once you\'re done, then select the \'run always\' option. Snooze is supposed to automatically restart after an hour, but I\'d check manually (various versions have different problems with snooze). You could also \'exit\' if you want to make sure that it isn\'t running. Just restart the manager to get things moving again. I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

It\'s worth a shot. But I quit BOINC and the workunit kept running. After reopening BOINC I suspended the workunit and it finally stopped. We\'ll see if the problem resurfaces. Thanks for the advice. |
