I\'m getting a new system soon, but if possible I\'d prefer to carry over the WU my old PC is in chewing on. Would a simple folder copy of Boinc files work, or will the naturally changeing machine ID cause problems?

Not the end of the world if it doesn\'t work, but since the WU\'s do take quite a bit of time it would be nice to be able to finish the one I\'ve already started.

I am curious about moving a current WU from 1 PC to another. I was suprised not to see this in the FAQ\'s or as a sticky.

Anyone? Thanks,

Simply move the entire boinc folder, then reinstall boinc into the same folder. This sets the proper Registry values and does nothing to harm your work in progress.

Suggestion: In my experience, a separate Partition for CPDN (12-15 Gig allows plenty of room for backups, \"elbow-room\" for Windoze to play in, keeping a copy of errors for investigation, etc.) is useful because defrags take less than a minute, rather than an hour defragging C: drive. (Of course, a smaller Partition will work, too.)

The machines won\'t be merge-able for statistical purposes because boinc will see different CPU types...

Best of luck with the new box.

Thanks, I guess I\'ll see when I try. I am feeling fairly confident thought that I\'ll get the wu completed. My main concern now is/was what happens statistics wise when the first part of the wu is reported with a different machine ID than the rest of the wu will be?

This really doesn\'t matter at all, but if one were to look at statistics for the wu once it\'s done will it be credited to the initial machine or the machine that finished it?

People are always asking how you move a model to another computer, but it\'s been a long while, (perhaps a year or so), since anyone thought to ask about this, and I can\'t remember what happens.
But from when there was \"a small problem\" on the server early last year, I think that the answer is: The stats appear on the computer that has done the most work on that model.

Cool, I didn\'t think it would be that simple. Thanks for the response AstroWX!

I forgot to mention that if the transfer is made by CD/DVD-RW, zip the boinc folder before saving it. Otherwise, things are restored with \"read only\" attributes.

If the transfer is made over a local net, no problems.
