You only get credits if you return trickles, which you don\'t seem to be doing.
And only you can see what the program is doing on your computers.

If the models are running, it will say this under Status, in the Tasks tab of the manager window.

If trickle_up files ARE being created but not sent, then they will be accumulating in the folder with the model\'s name, which will be under the climateprediction.net folder.

There are certain conditions that must be met to progress with this project:
1) the computer must be above a certain speed,
2) there must be a certain minimum amount of memory,
3) the modelling program must be allowed to run for a certain minimum amount of time, to allow the modsel(s) to reach a \'checkpoint\', which is when the data gets saved. If they don\'t reach this checkpoint, then the next time the computer is started, the model will start from the beginning again.

There is a countdown time in the graphics display of the model, which shows how long to this checkpoint. (It runs from 432 to 0.)
To be able to see this counter, as well as other info about the model, you need to remove the overlay on the left of the display, by pressing the Z key.
Additionally, you need to press 8 to see the timer.

If trickle_up files are accumulating, then you may have set the Network activity option to off. Or you may have a problem with your firewall blocking the ports needed by BOINC, which are 80, (the same as web browsers), and 31416.

Aside from not understanding message boards I will struggle along. My elderly laptop is just about my speed. It is doing its job - thank you showing me how to see that. I do have many files accumulated. I changed activity to \"Run always\" and \"Network always available\" now how do I upload my files?

If there are files to be uploaded, then BOINC will do automatically, probably when the next trickle is created.
If you\'re in a hurry to see them uploaded, then go to the Projects tab, highlight the project name, then click the Update button.

If you still don\'t get any \'trickles\' displayed on the website after a day or so, press \'update\' again and then post back here with the contents of your \'messages\' tab. Sometimes a firewall or something like that prevents uploads to the servers.

Thank you Mike.
I started this process in January on my unused desk top and discovered that Climate Prediction would be all that I could work on. I aborted Climate Prediction and set up three other projects and committed my retired lap top to Climate Prediction. When I loaded BOINK and Climate Prediction on the laptop BOINK must have remembered I had started a task because I ended up with two tasks to run \"b097\" and \"aydb\". I have over 180 hours of CPU time in \"bo97\" and it does not report. I am sorry that I could not figure out how to post messages but it did report that I had aborted the \"aydb\"task and that I am running \"b097\". I would feel a lot better knowing that this effort is going somewhere.

Trickles still haven\'t shown up on the model\'s page.
Are there any messages similar to: Reason: To send trickle-up message
(You\'ll have to look in the archive file: stdoutdae.txt, which is in the BOINC folder.)

Roughly how many hours a day do you have the computer turned on?

Hi,

These are current messages. I am running my net computers 24/7 and learning how unstable Windows really is!

Hi Les,

In addition to my last reply I found no reference to \"trickle\" in the stdoutdae.txt folder

One thing that I forgot to include in my first post, although it should be set to this by default:

4) If you run multiple projects, then you should set the option: Leave applications in memory while suspended? to yes.
(This is found under General preferences, which is on your Account page on the server.
Having it set to no will mean every time this project gets swapped with another project, or is pre-empted by another program requiring a lot of memory, (and you don\'t have much of that), then the calculations to date will be discarded. If the option is set to yes, then the data gets saved to the swap file on the hard disk for a while.

As it is, I\'m beginning to suspect that the 160 hours that you\'ve spent have been a waste of time. It would seem that your program has just been calculating the same section of model time over and over, as it never gets to a checkpoint.
(Your \"car\" is in a large patch of mud, and is just spinning it\'s wheels.) :(

You can check on this by looking at the info on the globe display, as per my first post. Part of this is the percentage of the model that you\'ve calulated so far.
The first trickle is at about 0.67%, and if it still hasn\'t reached this, (it shouldn\'t take more than 24-36 hours), then you need to make some changes in the usage of the computer, or give up.

Hi,

I have I have Work Unit hadcm3pbb_bo97_0587622 running on my laptop and according to the graphics - I have accomplished 2.13% at this point. I hesitate to dump the task on the laptop because it seems to be reporting. This work is not recognized in my account on the laptop computer. I have another desk top computer that is successfully running three other projects and all that work is reporting successfully and my account on that computer reflects the work. Is there any way to get the laptop work to report into the account on the desk top?

This is all automaticly done by the user/server software. All you can/need to do is let the trickles get to the server.

If you\'re up to 2.13%, then there should be trickles showing on the account, and there will be a mention in the messages log file of them having been sent. (stdoutdae.txt)

So the trickles must still be on your computer, and can\'t get out to the net, and thence to the server.

The name will be: trickle_up_hadcm3pbb_bo97_0587622_[long-string-of-numbers].
The string of numbers is the date/time stamp of each file.

These files will be in: C:\\Program Files\\BOINC\\climateprediction.net

***************

Summing up:
Either the trickles have been sent, in which case there would have been a message saying this, and they would show on the server,
or
They haven\'t been sent, in which case they will be visible on your computer.

I give up. I aborted the file, removed BOINC, reloaded BOINC and we are now working on a \"c\" set. I would like to let my other computer know what I am doing but that appears to be over my technical ability. Thank you for your patience.

Hi, I seem to have the same problem as Don. I joined this project a few days age. I\'ve just completed my first modeled year (1/12/1920-30/11/1921) in about 18 computation hours(@ 2.55s/TS & 72 TS per model day). I\'ve completed more than 25,920 of the 4,174,560 timesteps. This made me I come to the conclusion that I\'m running the Transient Coupled Model. According to the online help pages, this model should trickle every model month (12 times in my case). There is no file on my pc with \'trickle\' in its name, nor is \'trickle\' mentioned in the stdoutdae.txt, and still I have no credits.

It looks to me that no trickles have been made and uploaded. Am I just waisting my time here and should I give up as Don did?

By the way, I\'m also running SETI on the same pc and that runs fine

A trickle has been received (right at the bottom of the following page):

http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=6424922

Note that the credit is generated once per day, and will only download to your PC the following time it trickles. So there can be a lag of up to 36hours between your PC first trickling, and credit first appearing back in it\'s charts.

Don didn\'t give up and is running two models simultaneously (Thanks Don):

Emmanuel

The TCMs trickle once per year, on 4th December.
The FAQ page hasn\'t been updated since the start of these new models, so a lot of what is there only applies to earlier models, eg slab and sulphur.
