After an upgrade from 5.2 to 5.8.15 I find that my Project details are fine, but the \"tasks\" wont restart. The project directory appears intact. The Suspend/resume button in the \'Projects\' tab doesn\'t help. I am not running any other projects at all. Does anyone know how to re-engage the Tasks (hadcm3trans_5.15_windows_intelx86.exe, hadcm3transse_5.15_windows_intelx86.exe, hadcm3transum_5.15_windows_intelx86.exe) unless these are now out of date? I was more than 50% of the way through and am keen to complete it. |

Something about the upgrade forced creation of a new machine ID for your P-D 2.8 box today. Please post the contents of Manager\'s Messages tab. There might be a clue in there. In the Tasks tab, what is listed in the \"Status\" column for the two Models? "We have met the enemy and he is us." -- Pogo Greetings from coastal Washington state, the scenic US Pacific Northwest. |

The default BOINC location is (or was, for a long time), Data directory: C:\\Program Files\\BOINC Did you change this with the recent upgrade, or way back? If recently, perhaps your old files are still in the default folder. Backups: Here |

Thanks for the Messages post, though it doesn\'t show what I hoped for. Given that your P-D 2.8 gathered a new machine ID, and given that there is no work in the Tasks tab, I\'m guessing that the original boinc folder was trashed. Or, that you were running BBC and didn\'t re-install boinc into the CCE folder. If the latter case, simply use Windoze to uninstall boinc and re-install into the BBC CCE folder. Voila! You\'ll have your Models back. If you weren\'t running BBC, I\'m out of ideas -- because the Messages show connection to CPDN and I don\'t know how you could get there without work. (Meanwhile, I\'m off to bed. Perhaps someone with better ideas will come along shortly to lend a hand.) (Edit: Welcome to the fray, Les! Thanks for looking guys! 1. c:/apps/BOINC is the original directory and my Projects folder is there with all the \'stuff\' that its is supposed to have. Sadly I installed over the top of the old directory and have no backup of the way it was prior to the upgrade. 2. I haven\'t run anything else (such as BBC). Just the regular CCE. Is it possible that one or more of the XML (client_state.xml for example) files has been reset? If so, is there anyway to rebuild them based on the existing project details? -david |

With regard to c:\\Apps\\Boinc, is *everything* there, or did you use the -D parameter to set it to be there? (i.e., executables in c:\\program files\\, with data elsewhere). If you search all your local hard disks for client_state.xml, I presume it\'s in c:\\Apps\\Boinc and nowhere else? I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

c:\\apps\\boinc has everything. I haven\'t used any special options and have no idea what \"-D\" is or where it would go. I just click the pre-installed icon to launch BOINC manager. All apps I install, I place in the APPS directory so I may distinguish between them and standard system tools. BOINC has only ever been run in the APPS directory and any sub-dirs were created by BOINC beneath the BOINC directory. I am assuming that the XML files have been reset by the upgrade and the details of the Projects has been lost from those files. Is it true that the XML files contain the details of, what TASK is running, where its up to, etc ? I looked on another P4 machine I have that is also running CCE and see that the XML file is MUCH larger there (55K) as opposed to my 4k file. If so, can this be rebuilt ? This file seems to contain lotsa stuff that is task specific including the names of the EXE and ZIP files that run. None of the info has been retained on my 5.8.15 system. Any help appreciated ? |

...I am assuming that the XML files have been reset by the upgrade and the details of the Projects has been lost from those files. Is it true that the XML files contain the details of, what TASK is running, where its up to, etc ? It certainly sounds as if they\'ve been wiped, not sure why that happened though (never heard of it happening before). Those XML files are key to the running of Boinc, losing them is a big problem. ... There\'s too much task-specific stuff to be able to restore it - you can get attached to the project again by copying over the account_* files, but that won\'t get your model back. The only way to get them back is if you\'d happened to have a backup of the whole boinc structure from just before the upgrade. I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. The model will have uploaded it\'s progress so far to the servers, so the work so far was still very useful. I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |
