I wanted to make the suggestion that some more info be added to the screensaver/Graphics. It would be nice to tell how many trickle messages have been sent and how many timesteps until the next trickle.


Note: I have my display power down so I don\'t use the screensaver part. I just hit the \"Show Graphics\" button in BOINC manager once in a while to see where things stand. I don\'t actually know if the screensaver displays something different.

The graphics window already shows the countdown to the next trickle. You may need to type Z then 8 on the keyboard to reveal these details.

Uh, is it maybe something besides 8 ? That gives me the countdown to the next Checkpoint. There is space for another line between the \"progress\" line and the \"Next Checkpoint\" line, but I tried another few keys and none of the ones I tried put anything there.

Right now I go to the CPDN website and look at my account, but that probably places extra load on a busy server. Also, I\'m still on dial-up, because I\'m too far from town, so it means I have to be connected to the internet.

I\'ve just started using a hand calculator to take the current timestep and divide it by 25920 to get the number of trickles and the percentage of the next trickle that has been processed. That gives me some idea when I need to be online for the next trickle up.

Sorry David, you\'re completely right, of course Z+8 doesn\'t give the timestep to the next trickle, only to the next checkpoint. My apologies. I don\'t think I\'ve ever seen a countdown to the next trickle anywhere.

Trickles take place on or shortly after 4 Dec of each model year. So if you know, for example, that your computer takes 24 hours to process a model year and your model\'s reached early June, you know you\'re half-way to the next trickle ie 12 hours to go.

Quite honestly though, I don\'t spend much time working that out either, because it doesn\'t matter if you\'re not online when the trickle\'s due. When you do get online, the trickle or trickles will just happen as soon as you allow network activity in the boinc manager. You can let the model crunch for weeks without going online, and when you do eventually connect to the internet, all the trickles will upload together.

I do the same thing - I can look at the clock and guess to within a few minutes when the next trickle will be. Only works if you keep the machine running of course!

Just for information: This gap is where the scrolling \"Message of the day\" runs. Normally it\'s blank unless the project wants to send everyone a message.
