I am getting a message of buffer overflow that is effecting the boinc c++ programing. This causes the program to crash. What can i do to solve this problem?

Which BOINC version, which Windows and what is the exact error message (check Event Viewer for that).

You are running 2 models simultaneously on your machine. Climate models are large memory users, and your machine is only 512M. My suggestion would be to stop allowing 2 models to run, or add more memory.

How to only make 1 model run? Depends on what you believe you want to do. Do you want to try and still do both models? If so, go to your account, general preferences and change to use at most 1 processor. Are you OK about aborting one, and maybe doing another project? Then in BOINC set CPDN to No New Work, and abort the least amount of work done unit, then join whatever other project you are interested in. There are other things you can do, if these do not fit you, just ask.

It is in Portuguese and it says:

You can follow Pooh Bear\'s advice. It\'s solid.
You can also try to upgrade to BOINC 5.8.15 from http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php, as it has a lot of fixes over 5.4.9

Just install it directly over the same directory you have BOINC running from at this moment. No results will get lost.

That\'s interesting, Jorden, I always wondered about that! I take it it\'s still wise to make a backup first though, just in case?

And BTW, since this is the first time we\'ve \"met\" in any of the fora, thank you very much for your major contribution to the BOINC FAQs page! ;-)

It never hurts to make a backup, but it isn\'t necessary. Well, I have never had a problem and I am testing them BOINC alpha versions. ;-)

But I think that only if you have lots of space you\'re best off with a backup. (my opinion!)
Not that it matters if BOINC crashes a model or a result as usually it has sent back that information before you noticed it...

You\'re welcome. I hope that the next new thing I am busy with will receive as much appreciation. :-)

The various climate projects aren\'t that interested in the overall Boinc status, they use the data from the trickle server instead. (Although a sideeffect is that someone may be given the same model to process, more often than not these get sent to \'bad\' machines so aren\'t a cause for worry).

I'm a volunteer and my views are my own.

Well thank you all. I have down-loaded the new version of Boinc and it is now working smoothly again. The previous work has been saved as promised, so it is now continuing its work. Thanks again =)
