I am Running Rosetta, Seti, Einstein, and of course Climate. I do not have any problems with any of the other ones. My virus checker is ETrust by Computer Associates. Other than that I only have my Email open. I use Incredimail. No other programs are running John It\'ll be something on your PC which is clashing with the climate model... what sort of stuff do you run on it? Which antivirus? |

As far as I know ETrust is OK (there are problems with Norton antivirus and Sophos). The other boinc apps won\'t be a problem. Do you use the screensaver or is it disabled? I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

Yes I use a screensaver. And it changes every 3 minutes. Is that it? Because I can disable it. John

Sometimes the Boinc screensaver will crash (and kill the model with it), and similarly if it\'s a third party screensaver which uses all CPU time, then that could also (potentially) cause a crash. It would be worthwhile disabling it for a day or two just to see if that makes a difference. I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

I am Running Rosetta, Seti, Einstein, and of course Climate. The climate models use a massive Fortran program. The other projects mentioned don\'t use Fortran. Backups: Here |

Windoze \'Start/Control Panel/Display/Screen Saver/Blank/Apply\' should do it. Edit: When you next upgrade boinc, there will be an option to set boinc as your screen saver; be sure the box isn\'t ticked -- so you won\'t have to go through the Control Panel business again. After that, boinc will \'remember\' your settings during upgrades. "We have met the enemy and he is us." -- Pogo Greetings from coastal Washington state, the scenic US Pacific Northwest. |

I have given up running Climateprediction. I have done all the suggestions supplied in this thread. I still get the Forten errors. I have disabled my screen saver as well. I have 448 MB of Ram. Could this be the problem. Maybe I should add some more Ram. The Boinc version I use is 5.8.16. Is there an update? |

512MB is recommended, but 445MB should be OK - I don\'t think that\'s the problem. However the odd amount of memory does suggest that the PC uses motherboard integrated graphics, which can sometimes be a problem. The type of errors you\'re getting are very unusual. On the Fortran error, what does the call stack display? There is a more recent version of Boinc (5.10.28), which can be downloaded from http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php, however, I don\'t think this is related to the crashes either. The crashes are all happening within 90 minutes or so of the model starting, which is quite quick. They used to run a lot better on your PC prior to September this year, did anything change then? Perhaps a move from one PC to another, an O/S reinstallation, copy from CD-R? There are still a lot of \'access denied\' type errors. Is there anything unusual about where Boinc is installed? (for example, on a network drive, USB key, or anything else?) Are you using the same XP user account as you used prior to September? If all else fails, I\'d suggest: * Detach from project * Delete the c:\\program files\\boinc\\projects\\climateprediction.net folder * Reattach to the project (just in case the project information on your hard disk has been corrupted somehow). I have updated to the new version of Boinc. Detached from Climate and reattached. It ran for over 5 hours. Then this happened. At least is is different (internal server error). I have now suspended Climate, since it would not allow other task to start up. Hi John, \'Http internal server error\' is not a problem with your model, I think the project servers are swamped. I\'d guess your model is now running OK now :-) What do you mean by \'since it would not allow other task to start up\'? When is the task deadline? I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. hm, same prob (and the year 1901 prob sometimes) and after 6 months no fix ? Hi, The problem is likely to be something on your PC. It\'s hard for us to fix something on your PC, even after six months... What does \'Zugriff verweigert\' mean? http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=7054451 IF it means \'access denied\', could you try the same thing which fixed John\'s problem? (i.e., detach, delete the directory, and reattach). How is Boinc installed on your PC, is it on the local hard disk, on a USB stick, or on a network drive? Are you running Boinc using the same user ID as when you installed it originally? The 1901 deadline problem is related to the Boinc version you have. It was fixed in Boinc version 5.8.16. Could you update it to 5.8.16 or newer? If you look at the README posts (link in my signature), you\'ll find one of them is titled \'crashes and other problems\'. It may be worth reading through them to see if there are any suggestions relevant to your PC\'s setup - a more detailed description of the 1901 issue is there as well. The climate task deadline is 25/11/2008. When the error occurred the rest of my tasks would not run before I supended Climate. It was running for over 5 hours CPU before it crashed. The remainder of climate was automatically uploaded. Rosetta went down for a minute as well at the same time. But it recovered. Hi John, |

After all I have tried, I am going to detach from climate. Every time I start running it, it runs for about 5 or 6 hours CPU. Then crashes without fail. I don\'t get any credit for running it, so I consider myself wasting my time and also CPU time. I could be running SETI, Rosetta, or Einstein and getting somewhere. I hate to do it, but like I said, I am wasting my time as well as my CPU. |

John, I don\'t blame you after that run of errors, but crashes that regular must have a pretty easily identifiable cause: virus checker, graphics etc. In any event, thanks for giving it a go - and perhaps Santa Claus will give you some RAM for Christmas. Iain |

... perhaps Santa Claus will give you some RAM for Christmas. ... And a graphics card. Either would help; both would help a lot. |
