Hi Could anyone help me with why the globe measuring temperature on this machine has gone totally blue Host:- http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/show_host_detail.php?hostid=760200 model:- http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=6825106 Im a newish user to boinc/cpdn but the machine just finished a complete work unit a couple of days ago. 2nd complete Slab model :) Since the screen went blue my s/TS have gone from 1.41+ to 1.32 s/TS and getting lower. pic: http://www.mhall1976.plus.com/shared/modeltemp.bmp I have tried rebooting. I dont have the time to make backups im afraid so cant restore the model, but it hasnt been going long. I assume from reading these boards to just let it run as long as it can as i still seem to be getting credit. Any advice? |

The model has another six trickles to go before the end of phase 1 (there are 24 trickles per phase). So, if it\'s making good progress, then letting it run might be useful as the science data for slab models is uploaded only at the end of the phase. You\'re lucky insofar as the model is speeding up: sometimes, it slows to a crawl on freezing over. If it\'s still an ice world at the beginning of phase 2, then I\'m doubtful whether it should be run to the end, but others may have a different opinion. Post back here with news of how it goes ... |

Still blue in phase 2 and s/TS down to 1.14 The temperature readings given for phase 1 look fine but the precipitation graph stops after 1818. Very wierd result. |

If you look at the top of the graph for precipitation after 1818, you\'ll see that the blobs have hit the upper limit (perhaps it\'s snowing). Odd that the temperatures should appear normal in an ice world - something is inconsistent. If the graphics show low temperatures it\'s natural to expect the temperature graph to do likewise. Perhaps some default value is being used in one or other display. Still, you\'re getting cheap credits! |

Not sure i am now. Boinc stats shows no credit for a couple of days http://boincstats.com/stats/boinc_host_graph.php?pr=bo&id=2800764 |

See the News thread, top of the Number Crunching section. Thanks :) So many forums I tend to miss stuff |

Odd that the temperatures should appear normal in an ice world - something is inconsistent. If the graphics show low temperatures it\'s natural to expect the temperature graph to do likewise. Perhaps some default value is being used in one or other display. Looks like the temperature graph for phase 2 is blank, and the precipitation graph for phase 2 does not show anything. Looks kinda bad for the model. Last trickle in phase 2 just occurred so I suppose it could be a graph generation error? |

not sure. Still a blue globe at the start of phase 3. Hope it goes to the end so they get the complete results to look at. My PC is overclocked by 10% but it has completed a workunit before whilst OC\'d (Runs torcher tests fine) |

Well It finished :) Temperature: http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?field=Temperature&resultid=6825106&phase=AT#graph Precipitation: http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?field=Precipitation&resultid=6825106&phase=AP#graph Goes off the scale in phase 1 on temp the precipitation reads tho now |

Well It finished :) Sounds like the result will still be useful. Not as a scientifically valid result, but as parameters that don\'t work. Oh well. Good luck on your next model! |

Very strange graphs. The phase 1 temp graph is there but phases 2 and 3 are missing. This is the precipitation graph. From half-way through phase 1 the simulation seems to be completely flatlining. It\'s impossible to open the precipitation graphs for phases 2 and 3 apparently because there are no data input points. The model must have been racing through without actually producing data. This is phase 1 precipitation. Whatever went wrong happened halfway through phase 1, not at the phase change. I wonder whether you should try this computer on Prime 95 to test its stability while O/Ced. If it comes through the test without problems, we\'ll know the model was definitely at fault. One of the overclockers really ought to advise on this as I know nothing about O/Cing. Cpdn news |

Well It finished :) Is the computer OC\'d ? if so have you ran prime95 for at least 12 hours to check stability? If not this is the newest version. |

PC is O/C\'d AMD64 4000+ Running at 220x12(2640Mhz) 4x512MB DDR400 running at 440Mhz 3-3-3-7 (Crucial) Ran 2 complete passes of Memtest86+ v1.7 and Prime95 for over 14Hrs with no problems. CPU Temp is about 50-55Deg but the room does get hot. I could probably do with a better cooler. I\'ll have to be a good boy and ask Santa. I want an X2 4800+ but there going for silly money on ebay and it wont change. I remember getting £90 last year for my skt A XP3200+ Barton :/ Always happens to the fastest chip of a redundant socket. |

Having four memory sticks on an Athlon64 can cause problems (i.e., you might get a higher or more stable memory overclock if you only have two). I shouldn\'t bother with an upgrade of the chip if you\'re overclocking and already have dual-core - usually the chips overclock to a similar level (i.e., my A64 3800 overclocked to exactly the same as my A64 4600 X2, give or take 30MHz). I\'d recommend running two copies of Prime95 for the full 24 hours if you\'re overclocking (use the \'affinity\' setting). Set it up so that it uses most of the system memory when you have two copies running. I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

Also when the model that speeded up was running I only had 2 sticks of memory in as the other 2 was in my older unit to help speed it up while my mainboard was at Asus for repair. The old board went poof when i added an extra graphics card to go SLI. After 7 weeks they eventually sent me a brand new board out :) Was glad to see the back of the dodgy chipset fan installed on the first A8N-SLI boards. |
