Hi. Soon i\'m going to join ship, where i will be about 5 months with NO INTERNET CONNECTION. I want to take some WU with long deadline (like CPDN), but won\'t there be any problems to validate them? According to this sticky thread, (http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=5131)after 6 weeks with no trickle WU will be marked as \"lost\". Is there a sense to take them? Will there be any science advantage? And if i will give me credits for these WU? For now i have done it twice and there weren\'t any problems... |

Hi tito The problem with a model not contacting the server regularly, is that it MAY get re-issued to someone else, who MAY complete the model before you. So in this case, you would be duplicating work already done. But the researchers sometimes issue the same model several times, in the hope that it WILL be run several times, but on different processor types, so that they can check for any computation differences. Only the researchers would know how much value there is in different models, let alone in duplicated models. So if this is OK with you, then go ahead and take some with you. As for credits, yes you WILL get some, for each trickle eventually returned. Hope you have a safe journey. Backups: Here |

Tito, I expect you know that in your cpdn project preferences you can select the type of model you want to download. The HadCM are the longest but you may get one that\'s 80 years, or one that\'s 160 years (you can\'t choose between 80 and 160). The HadSM slab models are much shorter. If you find that you haven\'t got enough models to keep the computers busy for so long, you could also attach to the Seasonal Attribution Project which is a cpdn sub-project and get an SAP model from there. But the SAP models need 1Gb RAM for each model. I assume that these computers are laptops? Laptops can heat up more than desktop computers, so put something underneath to raise the complete laptop approx 1cm above the table surface or the floor. The extra air underneath provides more cooling. Only raising the little feet at the back isn\'t sufficient when you run a laptop for long periods. I hope your ship takes you to some interesting places. Cpdn news |

Yes, they are laptops, but about cooling i know plenty thinks:) For now 2 my laptops are working 24/7/365 without any errors. Ship\'s route is same as previous :/ No new places to visit :( Many thanks for answers. |
