Hi CRTP

Could you please unhide/show your computer(s) so we can see more details about these models. You\'ll need to do this in your CPDN preferences.

What version of BOINC have you got?

Unusual. The following model is an example:

http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=6195837

It\'s run for quite some time, the -161 error message implies that the model got about 75% of the way through (upload files 1 - 12 generated OK), but there are no trickles listed.

My guess is that trickles and result uploads aren\'t getting through to the server - most likely blocked by a firewall or proxy server, or something like that.

Could you post an extract of the Boinc message log showing what happens when the model tries to upload a trickle to the server? (If the messages log is empty, look in the file c:\\program files\\boinc\\stdoutdae.txt).

How is your network set up, do you use a firewall or proxy server? Is it a home PC or one on a university / corporate server network?

Are you using the command-line version, or the one with the manager?

If the manager, then let the model run for about a day or so, and then copy-and-paste the contents of the messages tab. Hopefully that\'ll include an attempted upload.

Are there any \'trickle*\' files in the project\'s directory within Boinc? (the directory might be something like \\usr\\myself\\boinc\\projects\\climateprediction.net\\)

Yes, that\'s the location. The models are supposed to upload trickles at intervals to the server, but in your case they\'re not getting that far. Usually these files have names starting with \'trickle\'<etc>.

How long have you been running it with the firewall off?

If all else fails, you could try detaching from the project, deleting that \'climateprediction.net\' directory, and then reattaching to the project. Might work, might not...

I\'d like to try an experiment to see if your model(s) is/are producing trickles.
However, it involves setting Network access suspended, so if you have Einstein work units, these will have to be run down first.

If this is OK, then proceed as follows:
1) Set all projects to No new tasks in the Projects tab.
2) Run down and report the Einstein WUs.
3) Set Network access suspended in the menu.
4) In the Tasks tab, using Show graphics make sure that you can see the data for the model on the left side of the display. (Pressing Z will get rid of the blue overlay, and pressing 8 will make the count down timer visible.)
5) Check now and then to make sure that the model crunching is proceeding in the display. The count down timer will decrease, resetting at zero, and the Atmos model time and the Timestep will increase.

6) A few seconds after the count down time returns to a high number, the model will checkpoint. (Save some data.) Also, at one of these checkpoints, the program will create a trickle_up_???????? file in a folder with the models name.
There will be an indication of this in the globe display, in the gap between Progress and Next save point.
I forget the words displayed, but after the program has had time to do this, you SHOULD find a trickle_up file as above.

7) If you now allow Network access, you SHOULD see a message in the Messages tab
such as:

21/12/2007 6:02:57 PM|climateprediction.net|Sending scheduler request: To send trickle-up message. Requesting 0 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks
21/12/2007 6:03:02 PM|climateprediction.net|Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks

(This is for BOINC version 5.10.28)
The trickle_up file should disappear at about the time of the \"succeeded\" message.

What we need to know is, does it proceed as above, or not?
And what message DO you get if not the 2 quoted above?

Sorry for waiting so long.
Ok, I did the experiment: All what I can see was: Next Savepoint 113. The Number decrease to zero and jump up to 144. I can\'t find a file like trickle... I did it twice.
Next I tried to update Boinc. I worked with 5.10.16 then updated to 5.10.21. This is the version i had all the problems. Yesterday I tried to update 5.10.28 because you wrote \"This is for Boninc version 5.10.28\" - nothing happend. I got no messages, Boinc started but finished after 10 seconds. I tried a lot. But at the end I have to kill Boinc and I have to delete all files. I installed Boinc 5.10.28 again. Now it works.
