Although I keep getting the \"No New Tasks Message\" in the BOINC Messages list, Windows Task Manager happily reports that a HADSM model is blasting away, sopping up CPU cycles. I see this on both my Windows 7 computers that are assigned to the project. It\'s confusing. Should I be concerned? |

[quote]Please copy the message, with a couple of lines either side, and paste them here so that we can take a look. Here\'s a selection. At the top a HADSM unit starts up. Indeed, as I type this, a HASDM unit is grinding away in the background, doing fine. But you can then see that there is then a constant set of failed attempts to get more units. That\'s what is confusing me. 1/14/2010 3:52:55 PM climateprediction.net Finished download of hadsm3fub_k27j_006460041.zip 1/14/2010 3:53:46 PM climateprediction.net Finished download of hadsm3_se_6.07_windows_intelx86.zip 1/14/2010 3:53:46 PM climateprediction.net Starting hadsm3fub_k27j_006460041_5 1/14/2010 3:53:46 PM climateprediction.net Starting task hadsm3fub_k27j_006460041_5 using hadsm3 version 607 1/14/2010 3:55:54 PM lhcathome General prefs: from lhcathome (last modified 19-Dec-2009 16:40:59) 1/14/2010 3:55:54 PM lhcathome Computer location: home 1/14/2010 3:55:54 PM lhcathome General prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults 1/14/2010 3:55:54 PM Reading preferences override file 1/14/2010 3:55:54 PM Preferences limit memory usage when active to 3070.96MB 1/14/2010 3:55:54 PM Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 3275.69MB 1/14/2010 3:55:54 PM Preferences limit disk usage to 50.00GB 1/14/2010 3:55:54 PM Preferences limit # CPUs to 1 1/14/2010 3:56:04 PM Not using a proxy 1/14/2010 3:56:47 PM rosetta@home resumed by user 1/14/2010 3:56:48 PM climateprediction.net Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. 1/14/2010 3:56:48 PM climateprediction.net Requesting new tasks for GPU 1/14/2010 3:56:50 PM Milkyway@home resumed by user 1/14/2010 3:56:52 PM SETI@home resumed by user 1/14/2010 3:56:53 PM climateprediction.net Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks 1/14/2010 3:56:53 PM malariacontrol.net resumed by user 1/14/2010 3:56:56 PM World Community Grid resumed by user 1/14/2010 4:01:00 PM climateprediction.net Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. 1/14/2010 4:01:00 PM climateprediction.net Requesting new tasks for GPU 1/14/2010 4:01:05 PM climateprediction.net Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks 1/14/2010 4:05:23 PM Milkyway@home suspended by user 1/14/2010 4:05:25 PM SETI@home suspended by user 1/14/2010 4:05:27 PM malariacontrol.net suspended by user 1/14/2010 4:05:29 PM World Community Grid suspended by user 1/14/2010 4:05:31 PM rosetta@home suspended by user 1/14/2010 4:08:37 PM climateprediction.net Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. 1/14/2010 4:08:37 PM climateprediction.net Requesting new tasks for GPU 1/14/2010 4:08:42 PM climateprediction.net Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks 1/14/2010 4:33:47 PM climateprediction.net Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. 1/14/2010 4:33:47 PM climateprediction.net Requesting new tasks for GPU 1/14/2010 4:33:52 PM climateprediction.net Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks 1/14/2010 4:41:58 PM climateprediction.net Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. 1/14/2010 4:41:58 PM climateprediction.net Requesting new tasks for GPU 1/14/2010 4:42:06 PM climateprediction.net Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks 1/14/2010 6:17:13 PM climateprediction.net Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. 1/14/2010 6:17:13 PM climateprediction.net Requesting new tasks for GPU 1/14/2010 6:17:18 PM climateprediction.net Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks 1/14/2010 7:05:44 PM climateprediction.net Sending scheduler request: To send trickle-up message. 1/14/2010 7:05:44 PM climateprediction.net Requesting new tasks for GPU 1/14/2010 7:05:49 PM climateprediction.net Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks |

Yes, it\'s just to do with GPU work. The new versions of BOINC can run WUs from some projects on the display card\'s processors, so BOINC will constantly ask for GPU work from each project, in case that project has added GPU support since the last time it asked. After a while, it will slow down, and only ask once pre day, or something similar. There\'s a new setting in the user\'s account page on each project to say not to use the GPU. You could try checking this to see if it\'s set to NO on cpdn. |

There\'s a new setting in the user\'s account page on each project to say not to use the GPU.Unfortunately, that switch hasn\'t been added to the CPDN preferences page yet - and probably won\'t be, until Milo can get the newer server code to compile on this server and updates all the behind-the-scenes plumbing. |
