Hi All, I have two PCs who are working for CPDN, the problem is that the laptop is not working good any more and I\'m afraid that it will stop working very soon but it has still two work units on it who are already started so I hope there is a workaround available to replace them to my other PC because it is a pity when they get lost. |

Hi All, It\'s not that difficult, Browny. I\'ve done it many times. Firstly, make sure that your good PC is set to \"No New tasks\" under the project tab. Then that PC can finish the work units it is currently processing but leave itself empty and ready to accept the workunits from the laptop. Secondly, make a backup of the workunits on the laptop. Actually, if you think the laptop is not going to keep going for much longer, you should be making backups anyway. If you are not sure how to make a backup, follow Les\'s guidance here: http://www.climateprediction.net/board/viewtopic.php?t=8301 . Remember, it\'s the data files, not the program files that you need to backup. Finally, when the good PC has finished all its existing work and you are ready to transfer the work from the laptop to the good PC, simply restore the laptop backup onto the good PC. Processing will continue from the point when you made the backup on the laptop. |

You can even transfer the backup from the breaking laptop to the good computer as a backup, for example put the backup in your documents on the good computer. The backup can just wait there until your good computer has finished its CPDN work. Then delete the complete contents of the good computer\'s Boinc Data folder and copy the contents of the backup to the empty Data folder. This only works if both computers have the same operating system: both must be Windows or both Linux or both Mac. But you can transfer a Boinc Data folder from a single-core computer to a multicore and vice-versa. If you would like click-by-click details of the procedure one of us can write that. I once kept a backup for about two months, then restored it and completed the model in it. Cpdn news |
