Do you guys consider to hold some competitions with climateprediction.net users? That may increase the number of our volunteers and improve people's concentration on climate changes. But the average pack for the computation is too large to attract people to join. And maybe the climateprediction.net should hold some competition games for world wide, just like the PrimeGride do, to attract people to join at this stage...

Thanks!

There is a limit how far Tasks can be broken apart and still be useful in climate modeling. We're currently testing additional Models that operate similarly to the current FAMOUS Tasks --> run in segments (I call them fragments), one segment's restart dump feeding the next segment's download. (That is not without issues, given differences among hardware and OS types.)

Some years ago we ran Tasks that ran almost four months, even on good machines (good for that time). Some of us prefer having Tasks processed on a single machine -- and there is a paper on the PHP board about differences when the same Task is processed on different configurations. (I anticipate a paper on this fragmented approach but not anytime soon; it is surely a more complex problem to analyze.)

Welcome to the Project and the Boards.

What sort of competitions do they run at PrimeGrid please? If you have a link to a page that shows what they do, all the better.

Dear AstroWx:

You must have had a very good machines if you could complete one of the CM models in only 4 months. It used to take me more like 7 months on the electronic snail that I was running. ;-)

This is an example of their race. All races can attract more people to join in running related projects, so I think we should hold some race too.

Now, I just issued a race on Climateprediction.net project. Let's see whether we can attract adequate groups to join. See: http://boincstats.com/bam/challenge.php
