I was reading the news about the new RAPID-RAPIT tasks, so I thought I would check my preferences. In the details they mention its based upon the HADCM3. The prefs show the following as available:

So which one do we select for the RAPID-RAPIT tasks? Is it the HADCM3L?

No. It's the UK Met Office HadCM3 Coupled Model Full Resolution Ocean. They're all out being processed at the moment, but there will be another batch when those are finished (or crash).

Thanks Iain, I have now picked one up.

Its estimating 481 hours to go (after it been running for 4+ hours). This is on an i7-920, so will need to leave the machine going for 20 days to complete it. The deadline is in 3 months.

Its estimating 481 hours to go (after it been running for 4+ hours). This is on an i7-920, so will need to leave the machine going for 20 days to complete it. The deadline is in 3 months.

Don't hold your breath. I have the same CPU, and I have two of these tasks at 668 hours elapsed but only 67% complete. So, looking at 1000 hours total when finished.

6 of my 8 models from the latest batch have just passed the first zip point at 25%.
Back dating to the time that these were created, and multiplying by 4 gives 520-530 hours total processing time.

This is for a pair of Intel Q6600 running at stock speed (2.4 GHz), with 3.5 Gig of functional ram each. The OS is Win XP Pro.
They are not running other projects.

For multi-project crunchers, especially if they are slower or have less ram, the total time will be longer. How much depends on too may things to make a comparison.

My 2 from the first batch finished in just under 500 hours each; about 20 days.

I can confirm Les' under-500-hours run-time. Two completed on my Q6600, in Vista_x64 with 8Gig RAM, running with a pair of Beta FAMOUS tasks. They completed in 478 and 483 hours.

I have no idea why the models I have are running so slowly.

Simple.
They're 'geoengineering' models, not Rapid-Rapit models.

See one of mine here for what the name etc should look like.

Note the "L" at the end of the application name (HadCM3L), for the ones that you're running.
All 'grist for the mill', though.
