Hey all, I'm getting an Error 417 when I try connecting to the CPDN servers. I recently deployed to Afghanistan so I have to connect through the internet provided by one of the contractors which I believe is routed through Germany (at least that's where sites like Yahoo and Google route to)... Odd thing though is that I can connect to projects like WCG, but CPDN can't. I don't want to try connecting through a proxy yet in case that's against the rules and they cut off my internet altogether, and I saw old post about creating a cc_config.xml file to have it go through http 1 but I have no idea how to do this and don't want to screw something else up... any suggestions?

The code is:

<cc_config>
<options>
<http_1_0>1</http_1_0>
<options>
</cc_config>

Use Notepad to copy this in to a file, and save it as cc_config.xml

1) Make sure that the extension is ONLY xml, and not txt!
2) Do NOT open this file with a web browser. Doing that adds hidden characters to the ends of lines, and it then won't work.

Put the file in the data part of BOINC, the one with client_state.xml
Stop and then restart BOINC.

However, please note that this project often doesn't have work, and that when it does, there are 30,000 computers after the 3,000-4,000 tasks.
So it may not be worth it to try too hard to keep going with this project under difficult circumstances.

Woohoo! It worked, thanks! And yeah, definitely familiar with the lack of work, but I also have an ongoing task and it wasn't able to send trickle up messages until I fixed this, so still needed to have. And at the least, projects like WCG still work so I can crunch while waiting for CPDN tasks to come up. Thanks again!

Odd. I didn't notice when I copied that into the post, but the second options should be </options>.

Probably best to fix it, even if it does work. (BOINC "xml" code isn't really xml. :) )

Sorry about the mistake, but it's good to know that you're back in business.
Just for the record, and anyone else reading this, the FAQ is here.

Well it didn't work at first... it gave me error of unknown tag and no ending tag, so I went in and fixed it then it worked.. but guess I should've said something in case someone else had same issue. Guess I didn't want to point it out with you being nice to help me =) And on that note, thanks again, it's good to be crunching again.
