Hi,

I've been a climateprediction user since 2004.
I would like to attach a new windows7 PC to my account.
I installed BOINC 7.0.28 on new PC.
Clicked on "Add project" in the Boinc manager
Clicked on climateprediction.net => it sets project URL to http://climateprediction.net/ but this address does not work, so I entered http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/ instead.
Then on next screen, I enter my credentials (which I checked from a web client) but got error msg:
"An error occured. Check the evenlt log for details"

How can I participate to climateprediction BOINC project??

It's not possible to attach computers at present due to the issues as mentioned in the News thread, and in a couple of user posts.

Thanks for quick answer.
Before posting here, I had checked the news section of climateprediction.net main page but could not find it.
Good that you point to this address.

It's at the top of Number Crunching. You can subscribe to that thread to receive an email alert and a link to it every time there's a new announcement.

Hi

Knew about this problem in March. Thought it was sorted.

Having rebuilt an old machine prior to selling it, over next few weeks will use
it to test graphics cards running GPUGrid.

Thought that I might as well crunch some CPDN models at the same time (8 on this i7-920 !) until
GPU tests are all satisfactorily completed. Ok, models are currently scarce but do get the odd
one or two getting to my two main systems - usually "full resolutions".

Sadly, after a new installation, BOINC refuses to attach (project not found). GPUGrid attached ok.

In the meantime, have attached and downloaded WCG units just to keep the old system busy :)

Moan

How are you attaching from the new Boinc installation? I connected my new PC via the wizard and it seemed to work OK (that was about a month ago).

New Windows 8 install on a clean drive then a new BOINC install.

Started BOINC then Tools / Add project or account manager / Add project / selected CPDN - i.e. the usual method. Or is there another?

When starting BOINC for first time it immediately started the wizard. Same problem.

Been ages since I reattached CPDN.

There are a handful of other methods (via command line, via the website), but the way you did it sounds the same as I did a month ago.

The website method has been blocked for years, but I thought that registering the new PC via the Boinc wizard should be working OK as of the 26th March.

Possibly the relevant server may have been down (although server status looks OK). Could you try again? If that doesn't work, it might be worth glancing in your firewall log just in case it is being blocked for any reason.

Success!

Tried the command line method.

..BOINC\BOINCCMD --attach_project http://climateprediction.net <strong 32 character account key (from the Your Acccount page)>

Note that this requires the BOINCCMD executable not the main BOINCMGR one which I had incorrectly tried first time.

Thanks Mike for the clue about the command line method. Details from the BOINC manager help.

Back in production. Even got a single European WU right away. :)

Being a temporary system (until sold), instead of deploying regular security software, am just using Windows Defender
(set to ignore BOINC folders) as well as Windows Firewall. Taking Mike's pointer about allowing firewall to run BOINC manager,
have now done that - just to make sure. Does not really explain why GPUGrid and WCG both attached ok though!

Yep got the same problem here.. can't connect.

Using the latest BOINC version same way ian.sm did (standard wizard).
msg is in Dutch but translated it's like:
The filled in URL is not from an existing BOINC project

Also tried the new url "http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/" with my account details after.. result "an error occured"

Last week connected a work PC via BOINCstats/BAM manager without problems, now that's not possible either (no response from project)

Seems to me like it started after the failures of the site a few days ago. Looks like we got a new website now ;)

All Win7 PC's running BOINC 7.0.64 (no problems running other projects)

edit:
Also noticed the 'project stats' link on the site gives errors
http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/proj_stat.php

Thanks,
Ivar

The new front end went live on Friday. Looks like there are some hickups.

I'll email the project.

Could you give it another try? Jonathan thinks he has identified + resolved the problem.

If it works (or doesn't work, for that matter), please let us know...

BAM always did have problems connecting, so that doesn't count.
I'll ask for another look at the process.

I tried again with different options but still the same errors.

Normal way via the BOINC manager add project.
Tried it with different links but still no go..

The main project site was down most of the day (until just now).
I can now get past the initial communication with the project, but attach still fails (neither the GUI nor boinccmd are very revealing about why).

Update: now successful using boinccmd (as above).
