I have yet to fully diagnose my problem but while at work my computer locks up every two or so hours and once explorer.exe and/or Outlook is killed the computer seems to function quickly but this is only during shutdown and I can\'t get it to do anything else except shut itself down by hitting the powerbutton and letting it do it\'s thing. I have let it run all day without running BOINC and it doesn\'t mess up. I\'ve also run for days with BOINC going and no Outlook going but once I start the two together it\'s a time bomb. I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

I am running XP Pro with SP1 on a 1.8ghz Centrino with 512mb RAM & 20GB free space on the HD. I\'m running 4.05 BOINC but can\'t remember if I got it from the Setiweb or CPDN site.

I haven't had this problem, and while my system is not exactly the same, it is similar. The one in question is a 2.0Ghz Pentium with Outlook 2003 and has about 30Gb free. There is a bug in 4.08 and possibly earlier that uses all of the CPU time when connecting to a server. If you have a modem, this can be especially pronounced. But once every 2 hours or so seems to be much to rapid for this machine between trickles.

I just had it happen again and was able to get my system back.

1. Exited Outlook
2. Exited open Windows Eplorer Window (not IE)
3. Exited Macromedia Fireworks.

After about 30 seconds the machine was back to normal and I opened up all my apps again with no problem.

Any ideas. I'm running office 2000

Based on JM's answer - are you attached to any other projects besides CPDN?

I am only connected to CPDN. I am not certain however if I have ever tried conntecting to other projects and have for some reason removed them.

I had been having a problem with Windows Journal Viewer wanting to be installed everytime Adobe Acrobat would start so I reinstalled Journal Viewer 1.5 from Microshaft website which fixed that problem. Since then I have not had a problem with this happening but I'll post here if I do continue to have problems.

There is a general problem with outlook and any DC software. Outlook launches some threads with very low priorities, often lower than the DC software. When that happens outlook may hang, I havn't heard of it hanging the whole computer though.

Things that are delayed when this happenes is my mouse or any keyboard commands. If I have windows media player playing some MP3's it keeps playing no problem. I can get the mouse to shut things down I just have to be patient and only move it a little at a time as the delay can be up to 30 seconds.

AHA!!!

At last!

I am having some outlook problems too when boinc is running. Every 30seconds or so, outlook seems to "pause" for about 10seconds. It is VERY annoying....

Has anybody found any solutions to this?

I am currently attached to Climate, Seti and LHC. Running on a P4 HT 2.8Ghz with 1Gb of ram. All on WinXP SP1.

I to am having this same Outlook pausing problem. I\'m running Win2k and Outlook 2000. I\'ve got nearly a dozen computers I\'d like to add back onto my account but this issue has forced my hand to remove CPDN and BOINC off of those computers.

I\'ve had troubles with BOINC + Outlook, too (Windows XP Pro SP2, Outlook 2007 beta) - When Outlook is let running BOINC will stop crunching data after a period of inactivity, I just have to press a key or move the mouse to get it crunching again for a period.

If Outlook is closed it\'s able to keep crunching 24/7.

Outlook-threads at a lower priority might explain what I thought was a beta-flaw, when I have Outlook in systray and maximize it it often warns about being unresponsive and takes a second or two to get ready for me.

This doesn\'t seem to be project related (happens to me for both CPDN and Rosetta).
