I see on the server page that there are 60,000 tasks (hadam3pm2) waiting for Macs. I have OSX 10.8.5, 12 GB ram and lots of disk space. Prefs say run all applications. I don't look at graphics output. I get connection deferred 24 hours and the event log says "Not accepting connections from this host". What's wrong? |

Your BOINC version is 7.2.39, which has a bug causing download errors. I suspect that an upgrade to 7.2.42 might solve the problem. I see that one of the servers is currently down but don't know if that has any relevance or not. |

The host details page, here, shows the Maximum daily WU quota per CPU settings as '-1/day'. This is because the project staff have applied an embargo to all machines running BOINC Manager 7.2.39, as that version of BOINC Manager is unable to download tasks correctly. If you upgrade to the latest version and post back here, then a message will be passed onto the project team, who will reset that setting. |

Thanks. I updated to BOINC 7.2.42 about a week ago and "About BOINC Manager" confirms version is 7.2.42. Maximum of -1 WU per day! That would explain it. |

I think there may be a logical error in the embargo process in that we (i.e. users of this message board) can only see the BOINC Manager version number from model output, but if the computer is embargoed it can't get any new model, so the upgrade can't be seen. Perhaps the project staff can see the BM version in requests for new work or by some other means. In any case, I've passed the message on to reenable that machine. |

WiseOwl: your computer should be alright now. |

... Yes, they can, the request contains major, minor and release number so they could teach the scheduler to reject certain versions - this would have the advantage that they could even send a specific and detailed message to the client. |

All is well, thanks for your help. I have been chugging away on 7 WU for 20 hours so far. |

Hello, I too am seeing this issue on my Mac computer only (by contrast, my PC seems to be fine). Last month I'd received two notices (for my Mac and PC) from CPDN about upgrading from BOINC 7.2.39 to 7.2.42, and I did do so on both hosts. However, as I don't regularly check BOINC's progress (it's set to auto-hide on login), I only recently noticed that all CPDN communication from my Mac are still being rejected for the reason mentioned in this thread. Could my Mac host (400307) please be cleared for further work? Also, since this issue may be affecting many other Mac users as well, perhaps a more general solution could be implemented by the project developers? Regards, --Paul |

There's already a well tested procedure for this: We find computers causing problems. We notify the project people, who block that computer and send an email to the owner. Then we wait until the owner contacts us to say that the problem has been fixed. We tell the project people, who unblock the computer. There are LOTS of people with abandoned computer appearances, and also changed emails, who never contact us, so their computers stay blocked. Now that you HAVE contacted us, I'll email the project people, who will eventually unblock your computer. |

Hello again, Moderator Les, thank you for the consideration given to the request to unblock my Mac. I do also appreciate the procedure that you outlined, but please note that the need for us to contact CPDN after upgrading BOINC was not actually mentioned in the original email alerts, at least not the ones that I'd received on 16th April. (I'd just assumed that the upgrade would be auto-detected by the CPDN scheduler on a subsequent upstream communication.) A couple of additional notes: [1] Moderator Ananas' post (message 48908) suggests that work requests to the CPDN scheduler do include BOINC version info. If so, might this not facilitate automatic reactivation of a blocked host whose BOINC has since been upgraded? [2] As I hinted earlier, unlike the Mac host, my Windows PC host (828129) has somehow been unaffected by this embargo, even though it too had been running BOINC 7.2.39 until I received the email alert(s). When I'd checked the PC's host details before my first post, it wasn't blocked. E.g., its BOINC version was correctly reported as (upgraded to) 7.2.42, and its WU quota was normal. (So if automatic unblocking is not being done, then I guess the PC had not gotten blocked in the first place?) Anyway, I look forward to having my Mac resume being a productive member of the CPDN BOINC community. :-) I guess I'll also have to keep a sharper eye on BOINC releases in the future. Thanks again. Regards, --P |

Just a reminder that I'm still awaiting the unblocking of my Mac host (400307). (BTW, is there a known average or typical waiting time for unblocking?) Regards, --P |

The average time is between now and infinity. :) It also helps if the project people are there, and we haven't heard from them for around a week. |
