BOINC has been running nicely for the past couple of days, since installation, but it has now disappeared from the Task Bar and does not show as active in the Task Manager. Selecting BOINC from the Start bar displays the logo in the Task Bar for a moment only. I cannot start it or open it and restarting the PC has no effect. Any ideas? (Dell Intel 2400 / 256Mb RAM / XP Home SP1)

Take a look at the "stderr.txt" and "stdout.txt" files in the program directory.

"stderr.txt" file does not contain any data. "stdout.txt" file is as follows.

Hi Andrew,

It looks like the client_state.xml file in your BOINC directory has lost the master url for the project. If you PM me all the client_state* files in that directory (using <a href="http://www.climateprediction.net/board/privmsg.php?mode=post&amp;u=1070">this link</a> and enclosing each file in
tags) I'll try to work out what's gone wrong and if there's any way to get your model going again.

Would the failure to connect to the surver cause this problem? Due to my running a dial-up internet account, I do not necessarily have a live connection when the experiment wishes to upload to the project server. It then defers communication for 1 day, then 3 days if it misses again. Following multiple connection failures is it possible it could cease to run. I see no way of forcing a manual upload.

Hi Andrew,

Check you PMs <a href="http://www.climateprediction.net/board/privmsg.php?folder=inbox">here</a>.

As for connecting to the server, it might be best to leave BOINC network access disabled and only enable it when you're already connected.
