Hi,
You can also run Boinc as a service (more convenient, IMHO):
See here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/auto_start.php

Hi,
Please read this important note: http://www.climateprediction.net/board/viewtopic.php?t=4697
So, don\'t use your backup and download the new models

You can also do a backup of the BOINC folder (after exiting Boinc)
44) Questions and Answers : Windows : BOINC: Account not found (Message 21714)
Posted 29 Mar 2006 by Arnaud
Post:
Yeap, the account key is not the password (it\'s suppose to work when you enter you ID key, but sometimes the key is rejected)
On the web site, log in your account with the account key, and select the link \"change password\": you choose a password.
Then enter the same password in the Boinc Wizard.

Ah super que ça marche !!

I just wanted to tell you that it would be great if you could upgrade your Boinc version from 4.43 to 5.2.13 (5.2.13 is working in command-line too) because CPDN is now sending the new coupled model that is sending intermediate results every ten model-years: this possibility of sending intermediate results isn\'t possible with Boinc 4.43 and requires Boinc 5.X.x (but the coupled model should work with Boinc 4.43 too: the results will be send at the end the model, after 160 model-years instead of every 10 model-years, if you can\'t or don\'t want to upgrade your Boinc version)

Hi,

Well, I don\'t know as I don\'t use ssh.
Did you try to use the boinc_cmd (same thing as the BoincManager (the GUI) but using only the command-line):

./boinc_cmd [--host hostname] [--passwd passwd] --project url {reset | detach | update | suspend | resume | nomorework | allowmorework}

It\'s a international forum: why don\'t you write correctly so that everybody can understand you.

What do you want to know ? Do you want to download a model?
What kind of model ? A BBC one, or a sulphur one?
Could you give us more details about what you want to know or to do ?

Another solution is to install Linux as a dual-boot.
You\'ll be able to run Cpdn/Boinc,to be credited and to use the same account.

Did you try to detach/attach again ?

@ Egon and KeeperC
These generic errors messages have not been reported during the Couple Model tests.
Hopefully, you\'ll be able to run this new model without problems.
55) Questions and Answers : Preferences : Can the 3D graphics be switched off? (Message 20071)
Posted 9 Feb 2006 by Arnaud
Post:
During the BOINC installation, the program asks you if you want to run Boinc as a screensaver: you can answer no. (you\'ll have to re-install Boinc for that)
Or In your windows prefs (the preferences concerning the screensaver) you can disable the screensaver or choose another screensaver than Boinc.

57) Questions and Answers : Windows : Will ClimatePrediction burn out my CPU? (Message 19949)
Posted 3 Feb 2006 by Arnaud
Post:
Modern CPU are designed to stop by themselves if their temperature is too hight.
You can check the temp of your CPU with programs like MotherBoard Monitor, but I wouldn\'t worry much if your PC is a modern desktop machine.
With laptop machine, it\'s possible that your CPU can warm too much.

Some users have been running CPDN for more than 1 year 24/7 on the same machine with no problem.
Edit: crossing with Andrew :o)

I have opened a thread on the phpBB forum, as there are users that run XP on 64 bits machines that can crunch models.
It should be possible with Linux, I think (except I don\'t know how)
59) Questions and Answers : Unix/Linux : lixnux AMD64 downlaod work problem (Message 19780)
Posted 30 Jan 2006 by Arnaud
Post:
Do you have any Wu in the \"work\" tab?
If no, you can try to update the project.
If an update doesn\'t work, try to reset or detach/attach again.

It seems that boinc can\'t contact the CPDN server to have your general preferences: Check that a firewall doesn\'t block the internet connection to boinc and that you\'ve selected \"network activity always available\" in the \"command\" tab.
