Will turning computer off every night cause problems?
(Message 65435)
Posted 13 May 2022 by Les Bayliss Post: If they're just turned off, yes. For this project, they need to be shut down gently; my method is to Suspend each task, wait until they've had a chance to stop and save all the files, then shut down BOINC, then turn off the computer. But there hasn't been any work for months, and the last lot was for Linux and Mac. Until the Linux failure rate got too high, when those were removed from the queue. The next lot may be a new type of Linux model, with massive resource requirements. But that may be a long way off yet. |

Posted 4 May 2022 by Les Bayliss Post: Hi Simon The bad news is that cpdn has been mostly Linux and Mac for over a year now. And right now, while a few Mac only models appeared a few days ago, the development work is currently on 64 bit Linux models. No indications of when they might be ready for release; could be months. The good news is that Linux models can be run on Windows by installing a vm, and putting Linux in that. There's several threads about this. |
