Boinc running on vista ultimate not running smooth
(Message 27680)
Posted 1 Apr 2007 by Keck_Komputers Post: In your preferences, have you allowed the models to use 100% of CPU time, or a smaller %? If you allow 90%, I think the processor does 9 CPU cycles at 100% and then nothing for the tenth. But I imagine this happens much too quickly to see it with the human eye in Task Manager. The BOINC throttle works with a one second time period, so it often shows up in the task manager. I would bet on the problem here being disk access in some form. |

Restarting - message timeout
(Message 27542)
Posted 27 Mar 2007 by Keck_Komputers Post:
That is actually the proper behaviour. However several combiniations of server, account manager, and client versions caused projects to detach when not attached via the account manager. Sometimes even a detach and reattach for all projects when starting the account manager happened, but that bug was fixed quickly. |

Restarting - message timeout
(Message 27512)
Posted 25 Mar 2007 by Keck_Komputers Post: It probably has nothing to do with BAM! Most likely the client does not think it has time to finish the CPDN task before the deadline so it has suspended work fetch for the other projects. Updating the client may have caused the change in behavior, there were some major changes to work fetch and CPU scheduling in the 5.8.x clients. The other possibility is that he did not attach to einstein in BAM!. Sometimes the account managers will detach any projects not attached using the account manager. |

Posted 22 Feb 2007 by Keck_Komputers Post: I\'m getting the following error when BOINC is attempting to communicate with the server: I think this error is caused by using an older client. Upgrading to the latest BOINC client will probably clear it up. |

BOINC 5.8.11
(Message 26883)
Posted 18 Feb 2007 by Keck_Komputers Post: Actually it is normally safe to upgrade BOINC without stopping the previous version. However with the size of the models here at CPDN it is wise to stop the client, backup and maybe even suspend the CPDN project before the upgrade. Just to reduce the impact of problems if they occur. |

Posted 16 Feb 2007 by Keck_Komputers Post: If it\'s an HT processor, and you want to run two models, go to your General prefs on your Account page and set the number of processors to 2. Then you can run 2 models at once. Acutally with 4 CPDN class models on the host and the client only being allowed to use 1 CPU the host is very likely in deadline trouble. Allowing the host to use both CPUs will reduce the pressure but may not reduce it enough to make a noticable difference, 4 models is a large amount of work to do. Don\'t worry too much though, when einsteins deadline gets closer the client will devote enough time to finish it. |

Posted 16 Feb 2007 by Keck_Komputers Post: Hi, You are right on here. A bug has been squashed that would cause the client to display the \"no finished file\" message for no good reason when switching tasks. Look for the fix in 5.8.13 and later clients. |

Posted 11 Feb 2007 by Keck_Komputers Post: It\'s interesting that 5.8.8 didn\'t look for the existing location of an earlier version of BOINC, as, according to the \'talk\' on the BOINC/dev board, it should have. I\'ve no personal knowledge of 5.8.8. The 5.8.x versions will find the existing location of a 5.8.x install. They are also supposed to move the BBC folder to the proper place if it exists, I have not tried that personally though. |

(Message 25235)
Posted 22 Nov 2006 by Keck_Komputers Post: The BOINC client needs to know where the file is. There are several edits that need to be made to the client_state.xml file so that the client will know where the files are. I am sorry I don\'t have all the details. I have always just abandoned any models in similar circumstances, it hasn\'t seemed worth the risk to the other projects to try to recover to me. |
