If your old computer is still sending in trickles (or returning results if you were attached to other projects) the police may be able to trace the IP to whoever has it. At least 2 theives have been caught due to BOINC.

There was a server version that was only passing prefs if a new venue was added or a new task was downloaded. It is fixed in the current head version.

The version info is incorrect. The throttle function only works with 5.6.x clients and later.

Hi, John,

My understanding is that transferring a zipped file precludes the necessity of dealing with that, which is why I recommended it. Am I wrong about that? (I\'ve done it without issues but might just have been lucky.)

You are correct, I missed the zip part in your instructions.

I think that once you actually finish the current model it will go ahead and download another one even if it is not projected to finish before the deadline.
67) Message boards : Number crunching : How to reset the deadline date on a simulation (Message 24697)

Cheers Les, and Dagorath.

I felt lucky; but too dumb to work a suitable replacement date, so I copied \'1202565236.000000\' into my deadline entry (after backing up), restarted boinc, now my deadline date is 2008, not before computers were actually invented.

That\'s good news:) It\'s evidence that WU deadlines can be easily restored if they get munged.

The bad news is... your deadline is now 2/9/2008 and if that\'s beyond the actual deadline assigned to the WU by CPDN then there is a possibility that BOINC will not finish the WU on time. Maybe check your results page on the CPDN site and find out if the actual deadline is before 2/9/2008 or after? If after then you\'re safe. If it\'s before 2/9/2008 then you might consider fiddling with the date to see if you can get the deadline on your computer to match or precede the actual deadline. I would think a lower number would give an earlier deadline and that trial and error would eventually lead to a proper number. Again, backup the BOINC folder before fiddling.

No need to worry about that with this project. As long as the model trickles once a month the server will keep it active and not reassign it.

Older versions of the science application left detailed results on the host in case they were needed for more detailed analasys. You can delete any directory that does not have a matching task in the BOINC manager.

IF telling boinc it will actually take longer will do any good, I can edit the DCF in client_state.xml

You would want to reduce the DCF if you go this route. That way the client will think there is less danger of missing the deadline and may request more work. Make sure you stop BOINC completely before editing the file.

Leave it alone for a while.
When BOINC works out the time-to-completion of the climate model, (which is a couple of thousand hours), it will know that it can handle it OK, and get more work from the other projects.
One of the problems now for climate models, is that BOINC 5.* is optimised for short WUs, and is hopeless with the climate models.

Also the client should not let a CPU run dry (for long). When it does it will get another einstein task even if it still thinks it is overcommitted.

Usually the solution to this problem is to download the old version of the installer and run it to uninstall the old version. Once that is uninstalled then the new version will normally install properly. Your old settings will not be affected.

You mean \"exited with zero status but no finished file\"? In that case normally you can just ignore it, BOINC will try again.
76) Questions and Answers : Getting started : negative recent average credit? (Message 23669)
Posted 19 Jul 2006 by Profile Keck_Komputers
Post:
CPDN grants credit based on a script that runs occasionally, twice a day I think. Sometimes a finished model will have extra credit granted when returned. The next time the script runs that extra credit is removed. Also since credit is calculated by this script when a member leaves a team their credit leaves too.

Uninstall both versions. Copy the files in the BBC versions folder to the standard BOINC folder c:\\program files\\boinc then reinstall the standard version.

This should get your previous model back, upgrade to the latest version and allow you to attach to other BOINC projects as well.
78) Questions and Answers : Windows : How much disk space does CPDN want??? More than 25GB? (Message 23538)

Hi, might be a good idea to set \'no more work\' against the project on that PC, sounds like it\'s manager has gone bananas.

If you were to \'unhide\' the computers on your account, then we\'d be able to look at the results downloaded, but not sure how much we\'d learn. I do have a question though - did you get a new host ID for each of the 383 models?

Unhid computers, but you may not learn much, as you said. What I\'ve done is detach that pc from the project. I may have to wait 30 days, but I\'m hoping that it\'ll assume I\'ve \"gone away\" and reasign the workunits elsewhere. AFAIK I got the same host ID, but 390 units on a 20-per-page list is a bit of a slog to go through - I gave up after the first 100 units....

The problem is not the server thinking you have those models, but the possiblity that they left some trash on your hard drive. In the BOINC/CPDN folder there are subfolders for each model on your computer. Any that do not have a matching entry in the BOINC manager can be deleted.

When you move you should uninstall BOINC, move the remaining files, then reinstall BOINC to the new location. Otherwise you tend to get a mess.

If that is not the issue it may help to update your settings on the website.

Try resetting the project. The client probably thinks it has a file that it does not have. If that is the case it should clear it up.
