And on a not totally unrelated subject, it would be nice to be able to 'retire' PCs. I retired a celeron 1100 in favour of a 3GHz P4 last week, but it won't let me merge it as I have no other PC with the same name, and it won't let me delete it (Error: existing results) because it did return some trickles, during alpha and beta testing. Also I reformatted a linux box the other day and put XP on it but it won't allow me to delete (Error: existing [linux] results) the old version of that either. Topics that need to be addressed some time.

I complained about the exponential standoff back around easter time - pre-(cpdn)boinc beta. Other options relevant here are to have a fixed 'check for connection every 10mins' or a separate program which can be run without stopping boinc and which will just collect all upload*.xml and send them in the direction of .ox. As trickling (hopefully) requires no changes to boinc internal variables this program would be able to be run at any time, or even scripted with an entry in /etc/ppp/ip-up.local (run whenever a connection is made). But then my router arrives next week so all of this will soon be irrelevant to me.
Cheers,

30) Questions and Answers : Windows : still exceeding daily limit (Message 2685)

Post:
Newimproved 3GHz ht P4 arrives 5 hours ago, is immediately connected and boinc is d/led. Starts up, cpdn url, pwd, time to dl models, no can dl. After some hours of 'master file fetch fail' it changes to 'daily limit exceeded'. Any ideas? (boinc_gui has been okayed for sp2 firewall. And just t' be shure, t' be shure, I switched the firewall off and tried again. Still no luck)

EDIT: working now. It seems that I had missed the bit about firewall-approved boinc_giu and firewall switched off and detaching/reattaching project and the black cockerel at the crossroads at midnight, etc. But eventually it all came together and now its running (finally).
Cheers,

PeterV.

Server problem, most likely. I have seen many other 'can't d/l' messages on this board in the last couple of hours. They have to be on this board because the classic CPDN board is down too.

No didn't stop, just start/turn off computer/restart, but would hope that when boinc (and every other running program) got the global shutdown message from 'doze it would do so elegantly. Might have to start manually shutting down boinc for such occasions. Funny, it wasn't a problem in classic CPDN.
Cheers,

And another thing that boinc appears to have \'fixed\' (it wasn\'t broken before boinc came along): Twice now when rebooting a \'doze box, something I still feel the need to do every week or so as it speeds up the graphics a *lot*, explorer doesn\'t act so flakey (for a while), etc, boinc has trashed the current model and d/led a new one, creating a new account (in the boinc window anyway) at the same time. In all cases I have just detached the new (phantom, no account name) account and allowed the new model to continue (don\'t have much choice, the old model is lorst and gorn forever).
I am wondering about the number of fractionally completed models that I am collecting...
Cheers,

I have an AMD Athlon 2200+, 256MB, running SuSE 9.0. I get 4.58s/TS, which Astro seems to think is fairly slow (in comparison to my Athlon 2500+, 512MB, XP, which does 3.50 s/TS). If anyone is running a similar rig, SuSE/256/2200+, could they please post their s/TS to let me know if the apparent slowness is the fault of the rig or my [very] basic linux skills. BTW, KDE System Guard (task manager) shows hadsm* taking ~95% of CPU time.

One that has worked for me is to go to the Project tab, right-click on the project line, in this case the one starting with 'climate...', and select Update from the drop-down menu (need to be online for this to work). This method also sends any outstanding trickles if you have Deferring lines in your Messages tab because you were offline when trickle time occurred
