No other BOINC site has made any objection to me, including CERN, Berkeley, the Albert Einstein Institute etc. So maybe they are just suspicious of anybody in Italy. Tullio |

I am running 5 CERN projects on this Windows 10 PC using Virtual Box 5.0.10, plus a SuSE Linux Virtual Leap 42.1 just to try it, and a Solaris 11.3 mostly for nostalgy, since it has no BOINC projects. I do not advice to install Leap as a Linux Virtual Machine since its BOINC client and Boinc manager do not work. I have two Linux boxes running SuSE 13.1 and 13.2 and one of them runs 32-bit CPDN projects. Maybe Ubuntu Linux is easier for a Windows user, also the Linux BOINC client is developed on it. Tullio I am eighty too, so don't be afraid. |

Post: Of my six BOINC projects only ATLAS@home and CMS-dev require a 64-bit Linux. All others use 32-bit Linux apps. My two Linux boxes run 32-bit OS, although one has a 64-bit CPU. My 64-bit Windows 10 CPU runs three 64-bit Linux Virtual Machines, one 64-bit Solaris Virtual machine and one 32-bit Virtual Machine, vLHC@home. CERN has said it will update vLHC@home but so far it has not happened. The CERN 2015 Challenge, not a BOINC project. uses 64-bit Linux Virtual Machine. I am running a CPDN task on this SuSE Linux 32-bit host, plus vlHC@home. SETI@home runs 32-bit on my other Linux box, together with Einstein@home. Both SETI@home and Einstein@home run on the 64-bit Windows 10 PC. Tullio |

Post: I am running Win7 on 3 laptops with 10 cores total (5 physical and 5 virtual) plus seti@home on the graphic chip on one machine. They are loaded to the gills. I have never observed any of them to reboots randomly. Maybe it is something with you machine, perhaps it id some piece of incompatible software that is causing it. It works perfectly on the CERN projects, but I have to manually restart the Summer Challenge of vlHC@home after every reboot. It was suggested to me that reboots may be caused by Microsoft telemetry.Windows 10 sends data to Microsoft, which causes many discussions in the SETI@home message boards. Many users with Windows 7 do not want to upgrade to Windows 10. Since I bought a PC with already Windows 8 on it I have no Windows 7 or earlier. Tullio |

But having bought a HP PC with Windows 8 on it, soon updated to 8.1 and now to Windows 10, I am running on it 4 CERN projects using Virtual Box, plus at times SETI@home tasks and Einstein@home tasks making use of its (very slow) GPU board. I have nothing againts Windows 10, but it reboots randomly outside its updates,since I have asked Microsoft to notify me of any update needing a reboot. It has a 64-bit A10-6700 AMD CPU with 4 cores and 20 GB RAM for the Atlas@home tasks. But I am not running any CPDN on it since its tasks don't like frequent reboots. Linux never reboots except on electric blackouts, very rare. Tullio |

Post: Open SuSE send me regularly its updated both on 13.1 on this host, a SUN WS vintage 2008, and 13.2 on my HP laptop, vintage 2012. It is my choice whether to instyall them. Now I am waiting foe the next SuSE release, Leap 42.1, due in November. I shall put it as a Virtual Machine on my Windows 10 host with 20 GB RAM, where 4 CERN projects already run as Virtual Machines. Tullio |

I have also a Windows 10 PC running 4 CERN projects with Virtual Box, but it has the bad habit of rebooting for unknown reasons (it has a 20 GB RAM), not only when needed for OS updates. I asked Microsoft to notify before making a reboot so I can suspend the CERN tasks. It would not be a good CPDN cruncher. The Linux box never reboots except on electric blackouts. Tullio |

Post: I was running an ANZ task on my Windows 8.1 PC, then it was updated to Windows 10 and before I could stop it on the Advanced Option button it was rebooted by an automatic update and the task went awry. It is still seen as running, but it does not. Now I have started a hadam3p _eu_ task on my Linux box when I can control the updates more easily on SuSE Linux 13.1. Tullio |
