Thanks for the info.
Another completed model with:'Workunit error - check skipped'.

Looking at the Work unit page, it seems connected with "Too many total results" as you say.
To sum up, those two messages are just BOINC artefacts. They don't concern CPDN and are nothing to worry about:
    Workunit error - check skipped
    Too many total results

Hi,
No need for apologies.
I had noticed it last week myself.
I was away for a few days and came back to find 7 Famous models running and a vertical drop in RAC.
But it took me time to decide something might be wrong.
First, no credit appeared on the main Tasks page, so I thought it was delayed.
Then I saw credit was given on the Task ID page.
So I looked at some computers with Famous running to check their speed.
(I'm running 8 models concurrently on the Core i7 so I thought it might be an issue.)
I also noticed some slowdown in other people's results on BOINC Synergy.
Next, I didn't have much luck searching the forums and only found the thread with your message through Google.

It might be useful if someone posted more detailed information about the new models.

Cheers
Maurice

Since running Famous, I've noticed my RAC has been falling sharply. The core i7 is down from over 4,000 per day to less than 3,000.
The first Famous run increased my RAC. There was mention of a slower model being beta-tested here;
Is this the result?
And shouldn't there be an adjustment?

It\'s true I haven\'t had many issues with my models.
This one is an XPS MT. Cleaning it up after 8 months has cut the fan noise down.
Otherwise, I think the Vista Service Packs have helped with the occasional power outage.
I remember when you had to be extra careful shutting down, particularly on my laptop, probably due to delayed disk activity . But this desktop has only had one possibly related iceworld.
One thing I do is get Windows Update to ask me when to install patches, so I can shut down BOINC first (OTOH, I keep everything updated).
Another is check temperature. (I have to take my laptop apart every 6-8 months to clean it up)
Finally, sorry to say that with the 8 models running, I\'ve let go of regular backups.

Also used for daily work and surfing and games...

FYI I\'ve just checked that my one failure was only a success on a Xeon running Darwin.
Hope this helps

31) Questions and Answers : Windows : Manager Not Retain Size (Message 35057)

Just checking, I didn\'t notice the problem. On the other hand, I was given to understand that you don\'t have to minimize the manager, but just close it (Alt-F4 or red cross) and access it from the icon bottom right. This has been standard procedure for some time. A few years ago, this used to shut everything down, and I remember the change surprised me. From what I understand, the manager we can see is just a user interface.
The only time I get the changed window is after restarting a PC. If I want more detail, I resize the window to my liking, ad the changes stick till next restart (which is usually Microsoft\'s patch Tuesday).

At the same time, I experienced a very slow Internet connection, with several time-outs in trying to access web pages.
What I usually do in such cases/
Suspend network activity in BOINC manager.
Pull the power plug on the router.
Put it in again.
Wait a while.
Just a guess: either the box needs the occasional reset, or the line is down somewhere.
If the servers are down, you can see that on this page.

As an aside: I was previewing the message and didn\'t see the BBcode or my signature.
I\'ll try to track that down.

Re Inspiron 9400
My models completed successfully, but I noticed CPU throttling events in Event Viewer.
Using Christian Diefer\'s fan control gui I saw cpu temperature going up to 90°C, at which point the Intel utility throttled back.
Well, time for some cleaning up after a year and a half\'s crunching 24/7 mostly. You will find all the necessary information on this page.
It\'s unfortunate you have to take the whole laptop apart to get at the grids behind the fans, which is where the crud builds up.
It took me a careful hour\'s work.
The result: temperature down to under 60°C, fan running slow and noiselessly most of the time.
One final note: since you have to disconnect the BIOS battery, you have to enter setup to reset the clock on startup.

Following a second HadCM3 22 error with negative theta, I\'m now running 2 HADAM models for the first time. Inspiron 9400 laptop, Core 2 Duo 2GHz, Vista SP1, 2GB RAM.
I\'ll let you know if there\'s any problem.
Though so far the only issue I\'ve had with HADAM is the drop in credit.
btw, I\'ve been looking for recent info on the negative theta issue. My first one was in April. My understanding was it was a bad model.
Since then I\'ve completed a control model, but then got that second error.
On the 22 error: it is a BOINC error, but you can find more information at the end of the error messages. You can check my latest one here. (error 22 at the topand the negative thetas at the bottom).
Finally, regarding Vista. I\'ve also suffered the problems mentioned in the past.
Not waiting long enough for things to complete. I\'ve been extra careful since and I\'ve noticed prolonged disk activity when shutting down BOINC with a HADAM model.
The Program Files directory issue has to do with permissions. What happens is that it won\'t let BOINC run on startup. I just activate it manually on the rare occasions I shut the computer down.

My latest completed model (on Vista) has the same type of error messages (a bit of a shock for me too, at first). When it finished, the last trickle was not credited immediately. Things got sorted out on the next database update.
Since the database was down for a while starting yesterday afternoon till this morning and trickles haven\'t been updated since then, I can see why you could be missing more.
There used to be missing trickles issues some time ago. If I remember correctly, they are taken into account as soon as the next one comes in and/or the database is updated.

Kathryn,
regarding Vista updates, I had the same setup as yours on my XP machine.
I was happily surprised at first (February through March) at how Vista was able to change a lot of things without having to reboot so I forgot to change the setting.
Since Vista\'s update policy seems to be the same as XP, changing the update setting to prompt should save a lot of problems. (Could someone put it in a sticky?)
Pooh Bear,
about running as an administrator: I think that what happened when I installed BOINC on my new machine was that Vista created the necessary permissions for the current user and group in the program files subfolder. I\'ve had a few issues with permissions with other programs but not with BOINC.
Leendert,
I\'m not familiar with Total Commander. I had an issue where I had to recover from a backup on XP. There is a lot of info on the Climate Prediction Board .
My problem model had reported an error but it was able to complete.
The \'result already reported as error\' may be a new feature.
Do try Pooh Bear\'s method. What I would also do is take notes of the security settings first. And see if there are any differences.
Best of luck

Sounds like a pemissions and/or firewall problem.
A few questions:
Where is BOINC installed?
What are the permissions for the directory?
Do you run as an administrator?
Is BOINC allowed through the firewall?
Why did you have to recover from a backup?

The only problem I had with Vista was logging off without stopping BOINC first. I haven\'t had any problems since, even though auto updates logged me off twice, so I suppose the shutdown process has been improved by the hotfixes. And I completed my first model on Vista yesterday.
However, there may be permissions problems when installing Boinc in the program files folder. I have full permissions set for administrators and my main user on the BOINC folder and climate_prediction subfolder. I\'ve also given ordinary users full control on the BOINC folder, but the permissions have not been inherited for the subfolders, which is probably why BOINC manager doesn\'t work for my other users.
I\'ll check and let you know.

Les, thanks for your reply.
Regarding the search link. It doesn\'t have to be a tweak of the forum system.
It could be inserted in the list on the left, or at the top next to the search site box.
For developments, just some news.
For results, the page that is linked to the home page is two years old, and shows results from classic. So, again some news.
The readmes: another useful link to add on the home page.
Editing the files. It\'s just that it helped me once and used to be talked about much more. That is something for the forums.
To sum up, I was just trying to think of ways to make it easier to access useful stuff and news.
