&gt; It appears that projects don't earn credits at the same rate...my RAC for CPDN
&gt; is in the 90's while Seti is ~19. Both are running equally (swapping every
&gt; hour)...
&gt;
&gt; What are others' experience with the different projects and how fast credits
&gt; are earned...

Since CPDN WUs don't need to wait verification from two other hosts, credit is always going to be granted much more quickly.

&gt; It appears that maybe LHC admins are not as experienced at tweaking their

HeHe... Don't bother. They don't know what happened, and are saying it looks like a Core Client issue.

You may want to reset. I had the same thing happen, and after things were repaired, (projects showing correctly) I tried to return a S@H WU and got an error that it couldn't recognize the app. version. Therefore it wasn't able to return the result.

Rather than risking the remaining 100 hours on the WU I was processing only to find it would give me an error message like S@H, I reset. :(

<a href="http://www.boinc.dk/index.php?page=user_statistics&amp;project=cpdn&amp;userid=355"><img border="0" height="80" src="http://355.cpdn.sig.boinc.dk?188"></a>
46) Questions and Answers : Windows : Yikes! Cross Project Contamination... (Message 4510)
Posted 23 Sep 2004 by old_user355
Post:
I just lost a WU a half dozen time steps from phase 3 due to some fun little cross project contamination of the client_state.xml file.

First S@H thought it was Pirates. Looking in the client_state.xml, it looked like all that was wrong was the project name had changed. So I renamed it, and it looked like all was good until I tried to return the WU and the servers couldn't recognize the project app version, although the c_s.xml had the correct version number.

So I restored the 4 day old backup I made of the c_s.xml file when I edited it to fix the CPDN WU error. Then I reset S@H and Pirates because they now didn't have the WUs they thought they had. (although I didn't have any from Pirates anyway)

All seemed good, but within an hour, all six of the projects I'm attached to thought they were LHC! So I restored the file again, detached from LHC, and reset everything except CPDN because it obviously still had the WU it had before the SNAFU. Then I got thinking that if S@H wouldn't allow me to return a WU, CPDN probably wouldn't either, and I didn't want to risk wasting 100 or so more hours to finish the WU, so I reset CPDN as well.

There are also several posts about this on the LHC and S@H boards. Here are a couple.

I'm shocked that interaction like this can occur. Surely there should be some safeguards in place to protect projects from each other...

The screensaver seems to not like ATI cards for some reason.

It doesn't work on my ATI card, or on two or three others with ATIs that I've read about here on the forum.

They don't seem too concerned about fixing it, and the pat answer you will receive is that your card must be OpenGL capable. There is a test you can do <a href="http://www.realtech-vr.com/glview/">glview</a>, that will check out your system.

Mine is 99% OpenGL compliant. The only "problem" reported is that it has no 8bit palette texture support, so performance will suffer on old applications. I very highly doubt the screensaver is using an 8bit palette.

Not to mention that both the S@H and LHC graphics utilize OpenGL, and they work just fine.

So it must be something specific to ATIs?

4.03 is the slab model. (CPDN project appliction)

If you click the model download link, the version of BOINC is 4.09.

4.09 works just fine with CPDN, you are getting download errors for some reason. Have you tried resetting the project to see if that has any effect?

&gt; This was explained by Carl in one of the other threads, though I cant explain
&gt; exactly which one.
&gt;
&gt; In short (my memory is vague now that its been a while), Carl had to "update"
&gt; the CPDN database, as there was an error of some kind which mean that certain
&gt; individuals had been given too much credit for certain work units. The update
&gt; simply recalculated what their total was suppose to be.
&gt;
&gt; For the vast majority of users there was no change, for some they went
&gt; BACKWARDS on that day (all be it backwards to their correct total instead of
&gt; being artificially inflated)

I believe it was only beta accounts that were affected.

The problem isn't CPDN, it's BOINC. BOINC is what decides to preempt, not the project. So CPDN isn't wasting your time on other projects.

Yes, it's known that the early 4.xx releases have the astonishing ability to blow past deadlines. As uk_nick suggested, you could try BOINC 4.09, but I haven't read anywhere whether this issue has been fixed or not.

Go to the settings menu and select "attach to project". Then enter the URL and account number. :)

&gt; Looks like a video card compatibility problem.
&gt; Your video graphics need to have OpenGL support.
&gt; To test whether your card is OpenGL compliant,
&gt; download the openGL extensions from <a> href="http://www.realtech-vr.com/glview/"&gt; here</a> and
&gt; run the install to check if your video card is compatible.
&gt; If it isn't - i'd suggest updating your video driver.
&gt; Or check on manufacturers' website for the latest drivers.

I've run the tests, and the only thing it sees a problem with is my card doesn't have 8bit palette texture support. Is this screensaver running an 8bit palette?
