34) Questions and Answers : Wish list : BOINC / Project - user defined base priority variable for win (Message 4154)

I would like the ability to set the process priority running windows gui version. For example \"low\" is ok for some machines but on dedicated basket crunchers I\'d like to define that to something higher... like \"below normal\" or \"normal\". It would have to be host level so maybe as an option under the \"settings\" menu or at the host/project level by adding to the right click on a project menu.

Thanks, Skip

35) Questions and Answers : Wish list : Ability to delete a not used workunit (Message 4153)

&gt; And on a not totally unrelated subject, it would be nice to be able to
&gt; 'retire' PCs. I retired a celeron 1100 in favour of a 3GHz P4 last week, but
&gt; it won't let me merge it as I have no other PC with the same name, and it
&gt; won't let me delete it (Error: existing results) because it did return some
&gt; trickles, during alpha and beta testing. Also I reformatted a linux box the
&gt; other day and put XP on it but it won't allow me to delete (Error: existing
&gt; [linux] results) the old version of that either. Topics that need to be
&gt; addressed some time.

Ditto. The box I want to delete is 19182 and it only has error'd w/u associated with it while trying to run BOINC 4.07 on win 98SE. Can ya'll deleted it and it's associated errored work units?

&gt; Maybe they took this out of the email they send out when you join, but my
&gt; email (invitation to join beta) explicitly said that CPDN would take up 50 MB
&gt; of RAM as well as up to 500 MB of hard drive space. And of course there is
&gt; the whole 1 month to process a work unit... I hope they didn't take it out
&gt; because I think people should be warned. CPDN is not for the faint of heart
&gt; :) 50 MB isn't much for me to spare (have 1 GB) but I can see it being a
&gt; problem for older systems.
&gt;

I remember some time ago seeing this now that you mention it. Probably on the board before the project opened up. It definitly eliminates my oldest machine a 200mhz thinkpad with 64Mb and a 3Gb drive. Thanks for the reminder. I've been blanketly adding this project on the other boxes as I went to 4.05 and probably would've done the same on the antique.

38) Questions and Answers : Windows : Visual Fortran run-time error (Message 2786)

&gt; &gt; Ditto on my XP Pro, SP2, AMD XP3200+ @2.23Ghz w/ 1G ram. I have screen
&gt; prints
&gt; &gt; and the stdtxt, stderr files if someone wants to provide an email address
&gt; to
&gt; &gt; send them to.
&gt; &gt;
&gt; &gt; Interesting thing is I'm running the same account/combo of BOINC 4.05 w/
&gt; CPDN,
&gt; &gt; SETI &amp; PREDICTOR on 5 other machines and the combo of BOINC 4.05 w/
&gt; SETI
&gt; &gt; only on 4 more machines and am only haveing problems with this one.
&gt; These
&gt; &gt; vary from a Dell P2 @ 400Mhz to P4s @ 2.8Ghz machines. Most running XP
&gt; Pro SP1
&gt; &gt; but some with NT Server and 1 Win 2K SP4 and 2 with XP Pro SP2. The
&gt; other two
&gt; &gt; with XP Pro SP2 are AMD XP24s.
&gt; &gt;
&gt; &gt; The prior day it crapped out a couple HADSM runs early and ask if I
&gt; wanted to
&gt; &gt; send a report to MS (I declined the generous offer) but I didn't capture
&gt; any
&gt; &gt; info then due to time constraints.
&gt;
&gt; After reading the cross post (Carl in Germany) I checked and found out one
&gt; thing different on this machine... it's the only one using the SP2 firewall
&gt; the other two are using Norton Internet Security. I'll change that and see
&gt; what happens over the next 24hrs.

No good first time it started up with a new HADSM3 task it gets the fortran error right away and sits. If I ok, or suspend/unsuspend it starts back up and gets the error in under 3 seconds.... Looking for other ideas.

&gt; &gt; might be possible. I noticed some checksum errors earlier. But I tried
&gt; to
&gt; &gt; reset the project...no it says:
&gt; &gt;
&gt; &gt; climateprediction.net - 2004-08-28 15:35:44 - Message from server: No
&gt; work
&gt; &gt; available (daily quota exceeded)
&gt; &gt;
&gt; &gt; Will try again tomorrow - so far its SETI instead of CP ;)
&gt;
&gt; Ah, yes. Carl set a <a> href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=252&amp;post=1730#1370"&gt;daily
&gt; download limit</a> of 4 work units per machine after somebody managed to eat
&gt; up 5,000 during the beta test ;)

I fixed my firewall problem yesterday and am still getting the 'daily quota exceeded'. What's it take to reset this? What are the timing rules... 24 hours from when?

40) Message boards : Number crunching : Unexpected problem downloading files (Message 2775)

&gt; Same Problem here. After detaching and reattaching several times I was able to
&gt; download without checksum error.
&gt; But when the client starts to work I get a strange error pop-up-box. The title
&gt; bar reads: "Visual Fortran run-time error"
&gt;
&gt; and it goes on: "forrtl: severe(17): syntaxerror in NAMELIST input, unit 57,
&gt; file
&gt; %boincpath%/projects/climateprediction.net/61h_000032843/jobs/spec3a_sw_3_asol2b_hadcm3"
&gt;
&gt;
&gt; Does anyone know what this means?
&gt;
&gt; The client stops crunching after this message and hangs at 1 sec. CPU time.

Had same problem and it APPEARS to have been the Win XP Pro SP2 Firewall. The other boxes using NIS firewall don't have the problem. Trying to get CPDN W/Us to confirm but SETI and LHC are working fine now.
