In the absence of any replies, I assume that it has just gone pear shaped. I\'ve aborted it.

This has just started to happen (Windows XP Home). I am running CPDN and SETI, 50% each. The SETI WU runs without problem, but the CPDN WU has suddenly started terminating. BOINC then restarts it, whereupon it immediately terminates again. This cycle repeats indefinitely about once a second.

For the time being I have suspended CPDN. Does anybody have any idea what is causing this please? It\'s sulphur_cycle 4.22 (sulphur_fsuz_000737243_0), result ID 1442572, WU ID 945734, with 3695.63 credits so far.

Should I abandon this WU and get a new one? I\'ve been running CPDN on this PC for 9 months and never had this happen before.

Sulphur is on a tight deadline because the results are needed in about 3 months.

I recently posted with regard to the sulphur deadlines. It would appear that one of my PCs (a 750 mhz pentium) hasn\'t got a snowball in hell\'s chance of completing the result in the available time.

BOINC runs benchmarks. Surely it\'s possible for CPDN to estimate how long a result will take to complete (from the benchmarks), and not send out a result to a PC which can\'t possibly complete it in the time available. OK I will get the credit for the trickles up to the deadline, but then what? If I get zero credit after the deadline, I\'m just going to reset the project, so they won\'t get a completed result. (Human nature.)

Are they still issuing hadsm3, or is it just sulphur at the moment?

24) Questions and Answers : Windows : Deadlines and completion times don\'t make sense for sulphur cycle (Message 16956)

Post:
After updating BOINC to 5.2.5 (from 4.25) on three PCs, two have gone into \"panic mode\". Both are set up to run SETI and CPDN 50% each, but both refuse to run SETI at all. Both are running sulphur cycle. Having installed BoincView and looked at the deadlines, I can see why they are in panic mode, but what is being displayed seems utter rubbish (approximate values):

PC 1 (2 ghz pentium): CPU time 30 days, % done 43.7, to completion 90 days, deadline 26/1/06. At least the time to completion is going down steadily, but why is it so high?

PC 2 (750 mhz pentium): CPU time 19 days, % done 9.7, to completion 198 days, deadline 26/1/06. In this case the time to completion is going steadily up.

Apart from the shortness of the deadlines, the days to completion seems utter rubbish for PC 1, and the rate of change of days to completion seems utter rubbish for PC 2.

As things stand, it looks like PC 1 will get to run SETI in about a week, but PC 2 will not get to run SETI until hell freezes over. Of course I can override this manually, but in the long term it will just make matters worse.

The third PC I upgraded is also running CPDN and SETI, but it is running hadsm3, with a deadline of 28/8/06. This is not in panic mode.

It seems to me that there are problems with sulphur cycle: (1) the deadline is too close, (b) the completion time is being calculated incorrectly. Any comments please? In particular, is there any way of getting these PCs to report more sensible times?

I had a similar problem on one PC, with it moaning that it couldn\'t find uninst.isu (I think that was the name). Eventually I fixed it by going into the registry and deleting the value referencing it. Dirty I know, but it worked. If you do this, back up the registry first of course, and also worth using a registry cleaner afterwards - I use Registry Mechanic.

I got the following messages earlier today. What puzzles me is that 8415 KB doesn\'t exceed 9765 KB, so I don\'t undersand why it\'s complaining. Also I\'m not clear whether this has screwed up processing of the WU or not.

I recently upgraded from 4.25 to 5.2.2, and it\'s been behaving strangely (I\'m told it\'s in \"panic mode\") ever since. It\'s supposed to be spending 50% of its time on SETI, but refuses to process SETI at all. Not sure if that has anything to do with the problem. It\'s Windows 2000 Professional.

Indeed. But if you look at "project news" on the CPDN home page, there is absolutely nothing about this problem. The latest news is about an OU course. At least SETI do try to keep people informed of issues.

I had the same problem with my work email address. No problem with SETI, but the email from CPDN never arrived, despite trying several times. I am now registered with CPDN with my home email address. I'm not convinced that the problem is a spam trap. There is something more subtle going on here. That is unless more than one ISP has ox.ac.uk in its list of banned addresses, which I find hard to believe. My theory is that CPDN has some sort of filter which refuses attempts to send email to certain domains (like co.uk?), so the email is never sent in the first place.

I should add that I've (now!) read the other thread about ATI graphics cards and 4.25 not displaying graphics. I have a Radeon 9500/9700 series card, and am running 4.25.

I believe that CPDN has some excellent world views. However when I click on "show graphics" nothing happens. I also run SETI on this PC, and this happliy shows graphics.

Any suggestions on how to get CPDN graphics please? I'm running on Windows XP home.

31) Questions and Answers : Getting started : How do I get my email address verified? (Message 12323)

I have clicked many times on "edit email address" in my account information. I replace "verification pending" with my valid email address, and am told that an email has been sent containing a URL I must visit to verify the address. But no email ever arrives.

Can anybody suggest what the problem might be please?
