1) Questions and Answers : Windows : will data sent in before resetting be credited? :| (Message 29238)

It will have already been fully credited (this happens after each \'trickle\' - the yearly uploads, at least after a delay of a day or so for each upload).

Congratulations on sorting out the crashing problem you were having earlier :-)

Thanks, that\'s good to know! :)

Hopefully the crashes are a thing of the past.

[edit]On a side note, is there a way to see the total CPU usage of each machine?[/edit]

After looking over the history of one of my machines (http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/show_host_detail.php?hostid=288332) from 2004 forward, I realized that it has a total of 110019.58 CPU seconds where credit wasn\'t given, mostly due to an error of some sort.

Over the past few months, I\'ve made a few changes to the machine including:

resetting the hardware back to optimal, non-overclocked settings
added a 2nd large, SATA HD and put the pagefile there
freeing up some of the HD space on the partition where windows & BOINC resides

Looking at the one of the most recent WUs (5287238), I see that credit is being given and trickles are coming through, which is good.

I would take this as an indication that CPND is working normally now, if it weren\'t for the exit status 0 messages I kept getting.

Unfortunately, I took the advice of the error message and reset the project and got a new WU. :|

What\'s going to happen to WU 5287238? Will the data that my machine sent eventually be fully credited? Has that already happened?

Thanks for the help...

I just saw this tonight:

climateprediction.net - 2004-10-29 19:45:41 - Unrecoverable error for result 2tyf_100153469_0 ( - exit code -5 (0xfffffffb))

~150 hours into it.

Even though I don't recall seeing this error before, I'm going to run PowerMax on my Maxtor HD and Super PI and get back to this forum...

4) Questions and Answers : Windows : if I detach CPDN, can I reattach later? (Message 3977)

Post:
Hello,
I have been having problems w/ CPDN freezing my computer (see http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=678) and I wanted to know:

if I detach the project in BOINC, can I reattach later (once the bug(s) are fixed) w/o restarting from scratch and losing any credit I\'ve earned to date?

Thanks for the help!

david

p.s. if anyone knows the status of the freeze bug, I\'d love to hear something about it! :)

&gt; If you're running a 2500+ at 1984MHz then you <i>are</i> overclocking it -
&gt; Desktop 2500+ is spec'd to run at 11x166.6 for 1833MHz, Mobile 2500+ is spec'd
&gt; to run at 14x133.3 for 1866MHz.
&gt;
&gt; That said, pretty much any 2500+ should run quite happily at 2.0GHz and more,
&gt; although some may require a slight boost in core Voltage...

I stand corrected. :) I do know that this machine has been through a large number of 24 hr+ stress tests and made it through without error, with the exception of CPDN. :( Anyone know what is causing this &amp; why 4.08 was supposed to fix it? Thanks for the help...

The (good?) thing about this bug is that it doesn't take long to manifest. I tried running her w/ some log_flags set, here are the flags I set:

task
state_debug
task_debug
time_debug
measurement_debug
guirpc_debug

Here is the stderr.txt output:

2004-09-10 15:43:51 [---] LOG_FLAGS::parse: unrecognized:
2004-09-10 15:43:51 [---] LOG_FLAGS::parse: unrecognized:
2004-09-10 15:43:51 [---] LOG_FLAGS::parse: unrecognized:

The stdout.txt doesn't seem to have logged anything unusual, though I can send that to a dev if it would help...is there something else I can set so that she'll give more useful debugging info? Running her w/ Dr. Watson and Dependency Walker has not been fruitful...they don't have time to catch anything b/c the computer is frozen...

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I'm going to run other projects until this is cleared up...

&gt; There is a known issue with versions earlier than 4.08 (in alpha testing now).
&gt; It should be fixed with 4.08.

I have been seeing this since BOINC 4.05....through 4.06 &amp; now in 4.08. CPDN seems to be the only thing that causes her to freeze, at least when I've been able to look @ BOINC just before she freezes. I, too, am not overclocking.

I'm running BOINC gui 4.08 on the following:

Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 5.1.2600 SP1 Build 2600
ASUSTeK Computer INC. A7N8X 2.0 Deluxe motherboard
AMD Athlon XP 2500+ running @ ~1984 Mhz
BIOS Phoenix Technologies, LTD ASUS A7N8X2.0 Deluxe ACPI BIOS Rev 1007, 10/6/2003
SMBIOS Version 2.2
Hardware Abstraction Layer Version = "5.1.2600.1106 (xpsp1.020828-1920)"
Total Physical Memory 1,024.00 MB
Total Virtual Memory 3.40 GB
Page File Space 2.40 GB

The last time she froze was while running 046m_000030412_0 using hadsm3 version 4.03.

I'm going to try running her w/ a few log_flags set and see what it catches. To whom/where can I send that log (assuming it will have helpful information)?

Thanks! Looking forward to seeing this annoyance removed. ;)

8) Questions and Answers : Wish list : In forum threads, have sorting that works (Message 2612)

Post:
Hello,
It appears that the sorting in the forums (at least, in the Winblows-specific forum) is working. I.e., if I want to see most recent question first, the list is sorted accordingly. However, once I click on a thread and attempt to sort by \"Most recent first\", it will only sort by score...

To run as a service will require the command-line interface (CLI) version of the client, which you would need to build yourself.

See http://boinc.berkeley.edu/service.php for more information...
