One trickle (if I am not mistaken) is 10802 time steps. This will very much depend on CPU speed, but some of the fast 3.0Gz machines are doing them in around 8-12 hrs I think.

Others will be able to give more exact benchmarks.

Dingo,

Here I am *smile* (quick hey)... luckily I too am an Australian.

You dont show up in CPDN stats as your Total Credit is still ZERO. CPDN, Predictor AND SETI XML files (created by the projects) DO NOT include members or hosts with zero work units. This keeps the file sizes down significantly (in SETI's case, if it were to put in the whole 5 million SETI classic members the file would be over 1 GIGABYTE in size!)

As soon as you send in a trickle your id will show up in the lists.

Hope this helps.

Cheers from Adelaide.

Yep but looks like there still working away... a few more quotes from the forum boards from THE Rom Walton (SETIs version of Carl *evil grin*):

I'm back in Washington now, I just received email from the admins that this mornings hardware issues have been resolved.

After taking a quick shower I'll post a news item and a revised time schedule for the upgrade.

[quote Posted: 28 Aug 2004 1:33:06 UTC]
I'll also have to make some calls to find out availability of the Admin staff in case more hardware issues crop up.

[quote Posted: 28 Aug 2004 1:39:35 UTC]
This last bought with hardware issues began at 2:30am PDT, the exact problem still had not been isolated when I left at 2:30pm PDT.

The rumors floating around that it is related to the 4.x upgrade, are false. The servers at this point in time are still 3.x

Okay folks, I haven't been able to get ahold of the right people to do this upgrade right now.

So I'm going to delay it till at least tomorrow, when I can get ahold of some people.

I'll go ahead and post a news item on it. Sorry about the problems and all, it completely shot my day as well.

Yes another public service announcement inviting all members of CPDN to a team. You wont find this message on any other board, or any more theads than this <b>one</b> (yes spamming members about teams IS evil).

SETI Synergy started in SETI@Home way back in 2001, with the BOINC era, we have grown into a BOINC team, and now cover all BOINC projects (right now CPDN, Predictor and of course SETI).

Were an international team, our SETI (classic) team has over 50 countries from around the world, with polite and helpful members that post regularly in our forum (great if you having issues, or if you just want to rant a bit).

Our web site <a href="http://www.setisynergy.com">www.setisynergy.com</a> has up to date information about ALL projects, and an ever expanding list of new things (the website is NEW for BOINC as well).

AND our team has WONDERFUL BOINC stats for ALL projects, ALL teams, ALL members, ALL countries, which currently get over 100,000 hits per day (<a href="http://www.setisynergy.com/stats/index.php">see here</a>).

So if your teamless, have a look around our team site, our stats site, our forum, and feel free to join up. If you want to know more... come and say hi at our forum!

Cheers, and crunch hard!

My feelings as well. I have been crunching with SETI since 2001, and am SETI through and through...

BUT, with BOINC I am rethinking my approach. One platform able to run MANY projects... its a GREAT thing. The individual choice with ease of not having to run multiple programs, which all try and hog the CPU and force out the other projects.

CPDN, Predictor and SETI are all so different, but all so worthwhile. The appeal to different people, and thats what I love. Resource sharing is a gem.

My hats off to the BOINC dev, to CPDN and the other projects for transitioning, and most of all listening to the many many little users that make these projects so great.

Crunch hard!

We are currently experiencing a hardware issue with our scheduling server, we expect this issues resolved within the hour. The upgrade to 4.x will start around 11am PDT and will take roughly an hour. Anybody who has any remaining results to report should get them in before the upgrade, after the upgrade you'll need the 4.x clients to report new results, and upgrading to the 4.x client will reset the project on your machine. Roughly 100,000 results are queued up and ready to be sent out after the upgrade, plus the three splitters will be up and running producing work as quickly as possible.

That is an EXCELLENT point. I am sure MANY seti members would list CPDN as a project (as they have done with Predictor) with a relatively small resource share. But even a small resource share has to download all the files and work unit.

Reportedly SETI will go to 4.0x today... only time will tell with that one. By the end of the weekend I will have up some graphs to watch the rise of numbers for CPDN with Users, hosts, teams and totals all in nice line graph form.

After a recent UPDATE by Carl with the XML format, there is now ADDED functionality for the CPDN stats at my BOINC platforms stats page.

The pages can be found at:

<a href="http://www.setisynergy.com/stats/index.php">http://www.setisynergy.com/stats/index.php</a>

NOW after the changes, <b>the HOSTS page</b> also lists which members have the host, and <b>the INDIVIDUAL pages</b> list all your hosts, and where those hosts are in the world.

Enjoy,

&gt; I think I have it "stabilized" now -- the problem is that to show userid's
&gt; from the host.xml you need to enable the flag in db_dump from BOINC, so that
&gt; the host table could potentially be big. But you don't need on the user
&gt; table &amp; team table.

My hat is off to you again Carl, you have jumped on the issue very quickly.

Thankyou Carl for (the crazy stats page makers) know... we could hardly get angry with such heads up.

The only thing that baffles me is why to put the host informatoin in User.xml. The way both SETI and Predictor does it is include just the ONE line (namely USERID) in the hosts.xml files, instead of 11 lines for EVERY host in user.xml (which if one person has 10 hosts is an extra 110 lines! instead of just 10 lines which would be in host.xml).

This will save you thousands of lines (hundreds of K) for every download of the xml files.

Hello all,

A suggestions (kind of directed to Carl and the other Devs, but open to comments from all)

With a recent change to the XML, EACH user, has thier ALL host informatoin sored in user.xml. What this in effect does is DRAMATICALLY increase the size of user.xml NEEDLESSLY.

ALL of this information is already in Host.xml (apart from the corresponding userid). All you would need to do is for EACH HOST entry in host.xml, add another coloumn called USERID and store it there. In effect increasing the size by only 1 line per HOST, instead of minimum 11 lines (max 11 line per host running per user) in user.xml

This is how both SETI and Predictor currently do it, and will save you a LOT of bandwidth.

Just a suggestion,

Zain

&gt; I think something must be broken because all the stats pages seem 2 days out
&gt; of date off site

@Martin,

Nothing broken my end... The XML files here at CPDN Beta now have not been updated in the last 2 days. My script checks the timestamp in tables.xml and if that has not changed DOES NOT download the XML and update the tables (as they would be the same)

Once the XML is generated again, the stats on www.setisynergy.com/stats/ will udpate them selves automatically.

Not sure what the problem is this end... I am sure Carl knows though.

&gt; over to the cross-project team leader when the true leader is able to join

I tend to agree with eRAZOR here. A common instance from the OLD SETI@Home Classic message boards was people asking if they could CHANGE their team leader. The most common instance is the team leader now not available, the email not working... and NOONE hence able to edit the team information, remove inactive members etc etc.

The simple ability of changing the team leader would be very nice. Of course that would mean someone to do these things... but I am sure every project could find a trustworthy volunteer without any troubles at all.

A question to the Devs, is there any reason why CPDN beta <b>is not storing the userid in the host.xml</b> files (both predictor and seti are).

I assume it is because of the 4.0x change. I wonder if this is an oversight for the new version.
