22) Questions and Answers : Windows : No new WU after System Crash and Download Error (Message 28406)

I had instabilities with my PSU. So the system crashes. The old WUs crashed, too. After restart boinc uploaded the crashed old WUs and downloaded a new, which crashed from another instability.

My system is, I think, after changing PSU and testing with prime95 for six hours now stable.

The messages from boinc are these:

No, my firewall allows me to download every filetype.

In addition I lost also a new WU, which was a WU for the 5.40 version. This WU was totally downloaded without any failure.

Hello,

because of a system crash I lost two old and a new downloaded WU.

After stabilising the system and testing with prime, I started BOINC again. Boinc started the download of a new WU (Version 5.40), but the download failed. A Checksum error in the application file was notified.

Now I get no WU from climateprediction for more than 24 h. Download time of the failed download is: 3 May 2007 8:03:17 UTC.

What can I do to get a new WU?

Thank you for your answers!

Thank you MikeMars UK!

I cancelled the project.

Now I have another problem. There are more than forty WU in my result directory on the CPDN server. My boinc don´t download them.

Actually, boinc downloaded 69 CPDN Work Units for your machine. 68 are shown as \'In progress Unknown New\' and the second one terminated by you (error -197). Nearly all were downloaded today (don\'t know how the daily limit was over-ridden).

Since you\'ve canceled the Project, it\'s okay to simply delete the unused Work Unit Folders.

[Edited typo.]
[Edit2: Email sent to Carl, in case this is a general Scheduler {or other} problem.]

Hi AstroWX,

I think that it was a general problem. Of course I couldn´t download any file until 13:00 GMT. A lot of these WUs have nearly the same timestamp. I looks a little bit like a multiple request to the scheduler, but I don´t know why.

I hope that the unused WUs can be restored.

Thank you

OK. That relates to your post elsewhere.

Two things. You may have a lot of old or crashed models taking up hd space.
If you have completed slab or sulphur models that you want to keep, you can move them to somewhere OUTSIDE of the BOINC folder, or put them onto a cd/dvd.

If you need to give BOINC more space, you do this on your Account page, under general preferences.

Dear Les,

I am sure that this is not NOWI\'s fault.
I am an experienced BOINC user and I have a same problem.
Believe me it is something else.

e.g.
If you see the error messages you can see that nowi set 3G space and I set 5G. None of them was enough, though \'Normally\' 2G space is more than enough.

I do not know what Nowi did, but I am sure he also archived and/or cleaned his directory just like me.

regards,
Pic

Hi Les, Hi Pic,

I have done, what you are suggest, before I posted my message in this forum. I have the same problems like Picard.

I also think that there is a problem on the CPDN server.

Live long and prosper

Update:

I have updated the project and now I have a WU to crunch on my PC. But, I still have over 60 WU in progress in my user account results folder.

I think, I have to use quantal computer ;-)!

Many thanks for your help, Les and Pic

Greetings from a rainy Austria

Not sure what is going on, but I suspect that it\'s because of the downed server.
Your BOINC sent a request to the server, and the server had trouble sending you a model, ao it tried again. And again, etc.
There was a similar problem last year or the year before, forget which.

I\'d suggest that you click on the project name in the Projects tab, and then click Update.
Then check your messages, to see what both BOINC and the server say.

Les,

I click on update and this are the messages:

It\'s not the number on the server, it\'s the number in your BOINC gui under \"Work\" that matters.
How many does it say there?

I have no WU from CPDN

One WU from SETI
Four WU from Einstein@Home

Hi,

I´ve get this message from the server. For this I allocated 10 GB for BOINC, but it was still not enough.

After that I checked my account. Under results I saw, that CPDN trying to sent to me over forty workunits. Of course I never had this disk space and of course I never will have the processing time on my PC.

What happend?
What shall I do?

Thank you for your answer!

Hello!

A few days ago my computer crashed while processing a CPDN work (95 % done). The crashed file was uploaded and bonic started processing a new WU form the transient coupled project.

Some days later my windows crashed. Of course I could back-up my boinc folder. After that I recovered my windows-partition from an image (including an old boinc folder).

I started windows and I copy my back-up into the old boinc folder. Now CPDN begun to process the old formly crashed hdsm-WU and not the actual trancient coupled WU (over 20 Hours of processing time).

My question are:
1. I granted credits for my crashed WU and the state was switched to done. Will I get any credits while processing the crashed WU?

2. Is it possible to switch to the trancient coupled WU before or after the end of the hdsm-WU processing? How?

Thank you for your answers!
