Profile: Strathpeffer

Your personal background.
This is Strathpeffer Pavilion, a historic building in the heart of the Scottish Highlands that has recently been restored as an exciting new venue for all sorts of events.

I was part of Team Scotland in the BBC climate change experiment for some time and found the whole experience both instructive and enjoyable. I learned a great deal about climate change, computing and many other things besides! And I have also made many friends, both within Team Scotland and elsewhere.

Since the BBC stopped issuing new climate models, I have been running CPDN models and joined the Scotland team here.
Your opinions about climateprediction.net
I joined the project because I'm concerned about the possible effects of climate change and global warming.

Never having done distributed computing before, I have found it more challenging and time-consuming than I anticipated and do not believe I would have stuck with it (although I'm heartily glad I did!) without the help, support, encouragement and friendship of my fellow team members and others involved in the project.

I think that new participants, especially if they are also new to distributed computing, should be actively encouraged to join a suitable team - it makes taking part both easier and much more fun!
